摘要: Systems and methods for microscopic imaging include an inverted microscope directed at a sample on a coverglass, where the sample is comprised of one or more cells and one or more chromophores. A ridge separates the coverglass from a silicon dioxide layer, and a silicon mirror is situated on the silicon dioxide layer, opposite the ridge and coverglass, while a weight is situated against the silicon mirror, opposite the silicon dioxide layer. The inverted microscope uses a spatial light modulator to diffract light through a linear polarizer and a filter wheel comprised of one or more Fourier filters. A beam or beams of s-polarized light is directed to the silicon mirror to create axial light modulation with its reflection on the silicon mirror, producing image data that is captured at a light detector.

摘要: A device implantable on a target of interest of a subject for pacemaker, neuromodulator, and/or defibrillator therapy comprises a wireless power harvesting unit configured to deliver power via resonant inductive coupling to the target tissue for stimulation in a manner that eliminates need for batteries and allows for externalized control without transcutaneous leads. The device relies exclusively on materials that resorb when exposed to biofluids in a time-controlled manner via metabolic action and hydrolysis. The materials and design choices create a thin, flexible, and lightweight form that maintain excellent biocompatibility and stable function throughout a desired period of use. Over a subsequent timeframe following the completion of therapy, the devices disappear completely through natural biological processes. These characteristics and a miniaturized geometry facilitate full implantation into the body to eliminate the need for percutaneous hardware, which thereby minimizes the risk of device-associated infections and dislodgement.

摘要: Disclosed herein are compositions for and methods of directing evolution of biomolecules. The disclosed methods simplify traditional error prone PCR of a single or multiple genes expressed on plasmid DNA for directed evolution and remove several previously required molecular biology steps, thereby affording facile purification of plasmid DNA expressing biomolecules directly from mammalian cells.

摘要: A plasma thruster has a tunable electron source configured to provide electrons with controllable energy. An entry electrode and an exit electrode permit an air flow to pass from the entry electrode to the exit electrode. The entry electrode and exit electrode receive electrons from the tunable electron source. A controller selectively controls the entry and exit electrodes to accelerate positive and negative ions in the air.

摘要: Systems and methods are disclosed for a method of production of carbon nanochain, for use as cathodes, either alone or in combination with multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The carbon nanochain precursors are heated in the presence of inert atmosphere to synthesize the carbon nanochains. The carbon nanochains have high gravimetric and volumetric capacity and good cycle life when used as cathodes in Li—O2 batteries. The performance of Li—O2 battery cathodes comprised of mixtures of carbon nanochains and multiwalled carbon nanotubes is dramatically improved relative to cathodes comprised of either material in the absence of the other.

摘要: A system and method for defense against cache timing channel attacks using cache management hardware is provided. Sensitive information leakage is a growing security concern exacerbated by shared hardware structures in computer processors. Recent studies have shown how adversaries can exploit cache timing channel attacks to exfiltrate secret information. To effectively guard computing systems against such attacks, embodiments disclosed herein provide practical defense techniques that are readily deployable and introduce only minimal performance overhead. In this regard, a new protection framework against cache timing channel attacks is provided herein by leveraging commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware support in processor caches, including last level caches (LLC), for cache monitoring and partitioning. This framework applies signal processing techniques on per-domain cache occupancy data to identify suspicious application contexts. Dynamic way partitioning is then used to disband domains that are involved in timing channels

摘要: Among the various aspects of the present disclosure is the provision of devices, systems, and methods for tracking the positions and orientations of at least one bone screw implanted within a surgical site. The disclosed device includes an extension that includes an extension base configured to couple to the bone screw, a marker arm coupled at one end to the extension base in a hinged arrangement, and an optical marker attached to a free end of the marker arm opposite the hinged attachment. The optical marker includes a pair of lenticular arrays in a coplanar arrangement in which the major axes of the lenticular arrays are mutually perpendicular. Each lenticular array is configured to display different hues at different viewing angles. The disclosed method includes transforming a single image of a surgical site containing at least one bone screw and extension into the global positions of each bone screw based on the pixel positions and hues corresponding to the lenticular arrays of each optical marker.
