The invention relates to a process for producing a catalyst for the oxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide, which comprises a) providing a support which comprises alumina and has been impregnated with silver or with a silver-comprising compound and has a temperature T0; and b) heating the impregnated support from the temperature T0 to a temperature T1 at a heating rate of at least 30 K/min, and also the catalyst itself which can be obtained by this process.

A method is provided for detecting not fully set coatings and liquid or smearing impurities on a surface, in which in a first step a film is pressed onto a surface of a coating using a predefined press-on pressure, the film having a relative motion with respect to the surface of the coating, thereafter the film is pulled off the surface of the coating and finally it is determined whether impurities are adhering to the film. A device is also provided for performing the method, including at least one film, which may be pressed against a surface to be tested, at least one press-on roller having a surface by which the film is pressed against the coating, and at least one device for determining whether there are impurities adhering to the film.

A device is provided for spraying flowable spray fluids (6) having at least one fluid reservoir (1) that includes at least one partition (2, 4), for storing the spray fluid (6), a spray opening (8) being provided for the outflow of the spray fluid (6) from the device, and a corresponding fluid reservoir (1); a change of the spray fluid (6) being made easier. According to the present invention, this is achieved by having a partition of the fluid reservoir (1) include at least one adjustable partition region (2) for changing the reservoir volume of the fluid reservoir (1).

A method for metering powders as well as a powder metering device are described which are used in particular for preparing combinatorial material libraries. The powder metering device includes a metering element having a tubular supply vessel open on one end for taking up the powder to be metered and a plunger which is axially movable and which reversibly closes the end of the tubular supply vessel opposite the opening. To take up the powder, the opening of the metering element is first plunged with a predetermined force into a loose fill of the powder to be metered previously charged in a metering receiver.

Compositions and methods are provided for the treatment and diagnosis of diseases amenable to treatment through modulation of type I IL-1 receptor mRNA expression. In accordance with preferred embodiments, oligomers are provided which are specifically hybridizable with DNA or RNA encoding type I interleukin-1 receptor. Methods of modulating type I IL-1 receptor expression and of treating animals suffering from diseases amenable to therapeutic intervention by modulating the expression of type I interleukin-1 receptor with an oligomer specifically hybridizable with DNA or RNA encoding type I interleukin-1 receptor are disclosed.

An optical scanning system includes a frame having a central axis along which is mounted a first elevation mirror for receiving an incident light and reflecting the incident light along a first optical path, a telescope for receiving the reflected incident light and outputting an output light, a visible linear array imager for receiving the output light from the telescope, and a folding mirror positioned to receive part of the output light from the telescope and directing it to a linear array infrared imager. The optical scanning system scans large areas of sky using multiple linear sensors in order to detect, identify and track low and slow flying manned and unmanned aircraft as well as to surveil large areas of terrain.

A method and a system for context-based real-time advertising are provided. In example embodiments, a document content that is displayed to a user may be analyzed and keywords may be identified. Selected listings from a publication system may be received; the selected listings may be selected using the keywords. The system may detect user events associated with the keywords and, in response to the detection of the user events, display information related to the listings while maintaining the displaying of the document content.
