The invention is directed to a closure for a vessel such as a fuel tank or lubricant tank of a portable handheld work apparatus having an internal combustion engine. The closure includes a filling stub formed on the vessel and defining an opening and a cap for closing off the opening seal tight with respect to the ambient when the cap is placed on the filling stub. A holder prevents the cap from being separated from the vessel after the cap has been removed from the filling stub. The holder includes a flexible member having first and second end portions and an elongated flexible segment disposed between the end portions. A first attachment disposed on an inner wall surface of the cap fixedly holds the first end portion on the cap and a second attachment disposed on the vessel fixedly holds the second end portion on the vessel.

The control membrane defines a wall of this chamber and has a reinforcement portion in the center region thereof. This reinforcement portion transmits the membrane stroke to a controller lever. The control membrane provides for a simpler manufacture thereof and achieves a better functional reliability. The control membrane together with the reinforcement portion are configured as a one-piece component.

The invention is directed to a membrane fuel pump for a membrane carburetor of an internal combustion engine. The carburetor has a pressure controller and the engine has a crankcase wherein pressure fluctuates during the operation thereof. The membrane fuel pump includes a pump membrane mounted in a housing which partitions a space of the housing into a pump chamber for receiving fuel from a fuel supply connection and a drive chamber. The drive chamber is charged with the pressure of the crankcase. A pressure connection connects the pump chamber to the pressure controller of the membrane carburetor. A bypass channel connects the pressure connection to the fuel supply connection and a valve is interposed between the pressure connection and the bypass channel. This valve is responsive to the pressure present in the pressure connection for switching the valve between a first position wherein the bypass channel is open to the pressure connection and a second position wherein the bypass channel is closed to the pressure connection.

The invention is directed to a membrane fuel pump for an internal combustion engine equipped with a membrane carburetor. The engine is that of a working apparatus and especially a handheld portable tool such as a motor-driven chain saw or the like. The membrane pump includes a drive chamber charged with the pressure inside the crankcase of the engine and a pump chamber separated from the drive chamber by a membrane. The pump chamber is connected at its suction end to a fuel tank via a first check valve and is connected to a pressure controller of the membrane carburetor at its pressure end via a second check valve. The pressure end of the membrane pump is connected with the suction end thereof via a bypass and a throttle is mounted in this bypass. With the throttle bypass between the pressure end and the suction end, the pumped volume is reduced at idle and the pump pressure is smoothed. Disturbances at the membrane carburetor are avoided.

A connecting piece interconnects the carburetor and combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The fuel-air mixture produced in the carburetor flows to the combustion chamber through the connecting piece in a primary flow direction. A plurality of closely spaced protrusions are provided on the inner wall of the connecting piece and these protrusions are disposed one behind the other and are offset from one another in the primary flow direction of the fuel-air mixture such that the formation of axially parallel channels is avoided. This embodiment prevents the fuel film deposited on the inner wall of the connecting piece from being completely aspirated all at once into the combustion chamber, which would cause a severe overenrichment of the mixture and hence a drop in rpm. Because of the many protrusions, the fuel film that is deposited tears off in the smallest possible pieces when being aspirated, so that only small parts of this film ever reach the combustion chamber at the same time. Fluctuations in the idling rpm are considerably lessened with a connecting piece configured in this manner.
