    Abstract: Systems, methods, techniques and apparatuses of fault protection. One exemplary embodiment is a protection system including a solid-state switching device, a galvanic isolation switching device, and a controller. The solid-state switching device is coupled between a switch arrangement of a power converter and a direct current (DC) link capacitor of the power converter. The galvanic isolation switching device is coupled between the DC link capacitor and a DC network. The controller is structured to determine a fault is occurring within the DC network, open the solid-state switching device in response to determining the fault is occurring, receive a measurement corresponding to an electrical characteristic of a fault current flowing through the galvanic isolation switching device while the solid-state switching device is open, and determine a location of the fault based on the received measurement.

In the co-packaged electric motor and motor drive, both the motor drive and the electric motor generate heat. A thermoelectric cooler is provided that may transfer heat away from the motor drive. The thermoelectric cooler may also insulate the motor drive from the heat generated by the motor.

One exemplary embodiment is an electrical power conversion system comprising a first converter stage, a second converter stage, a third converter stage, and a control system.     Abstract: A self-contained actuator for use in a robot manipulator includes: a housing, in which are arranged in axial sequence a gear, a motor, a brake, a sensor and a motor drive. The motor drive includes wide-bandgap/WBG electronics and is arranged in heat-dissipating relationship with a free end of the housing. Through the motor and some further components, there is provided a central channel for receiving a cable connected to at least one further actuator of the robot manipulator. The channel may be angled or straight. In embodiments where the motor drive is hollow, the central channel extends between the axial ends of the actuator. There is further provided an all-in-one industrial robot comprising a robot manipulator, in which one or more self-contained actuators with the above characteristics are installed and a robot controller is physically integrated.

One exemplary embodiment is a protection system for a power switch comprising a resistor and a detection circuit. The resistor is coupled in series with a decoupling capacitor.     Abstract: A multi-layered conductor comprising one or more conductor layers of an electrically conductive material and one or more shielding layers of a soft magnetic material. The shielding layer can be coated onto the conductor layer and has a lower conductivity and a higher magnetic permeability than the electrically conductive material of conductor layers. The shielding layer can, at least when alternating current (AC) flows through the multi-layered conductor at relatively high frequencies, provide a separate power path for at least a portion of the high frequency AC current, as well as absorb at least a portion of the high frequency noises associated with that separated high frequency AC current. Additionally, the shielding layer can be separated from the conductor layer at an output end of the multi-layered conductor so that output ends of the shielding layer and conductor layer can be electrically connected to different electrical devices or components.

The converter control system is configured to turn on the semiconductor switch, measure a first voltage and a current during reverse conduction, estimate junction temperature of the semiconductor device, turn off the semiconductor device, measure a second voltage after turning off the semiconductor device, determine a resistance value using the second voltage measurement, determine an expected resistance value, predict a failure of the semiconductor device using the resistance value and the expected resistance value, and transmit a semiconductor device failure warning.
