THE NOVEL COMPOUNDS ARE USEFUL AS EMULSIFYING AGENTS, LEVELING AGENTS, OIL, STAIN AND WATER REPELLENT AGENTS, ADDITIVES TO DRY POWDER FIRE EXTINGUSHING COMPOSITIONS AND AS INTERMEDIATES TO VALUABLE OIL, STAIN AND WATER REPELLENT AGENTS.

WHEREIN N MAY BE 0-2 ARE PREPARED BY DEHYDRATING A CORRESPONDING (1-HYDROXYPERFLUOROCYCLOALKYL) ACETIC ACID HAVING THE FORMULA
HOOC-CH2-C(-OH) WITH PHOSPHORUS PENTOXIDE. Abstract:
N-methylol and N-halomethyl derivatives of polyfluoroisoalkoxyalkanamides, and their substituted ammonium salts characterized in that an ether oxygen links a fluorinated carbon atom attached to two fluoroalkyl groups and at least one CF2- group. These compounds are useful as water and oil repellency agents.

CHROMIUM COMPLEXES OF FLUOROCARBON CARBOXYLIC ACIDS CHARACTERIZED BY HAVING A POLYFLUOROISOALKOXYALKYL TAIL WHEREIN AN ETHER OXYGEN ATOM LINKS A FLUORINATED CARBON ATOM CONNECTED TO TWO FLUOROALKYL GROUPS AND AT LEAST ONE -CF2CF2-GROUP. THESE CHROMIUM COMPLEXES ARE USEFUL TO IMPART OIL AND WATER RESISTANCE TO VARIOUS SUBSTRATES, INCLUDING PAPER, LEATHER, AND THE LIKE.

HOOC-CH2-C(-OH) PERFLUOROCYCLOALKYLIDENYL COMPOUNDS OF THE ABOVE FORMULA WHEREIN X IS OH MAY BE PREPARED FROM THE CORRESPONDING (1 - HYDROXYPERFLUOROCYCLOALKYL) ACETIC ACIDS BY REACTING THE LATTER WITH CONCENTRATED (100%) H2SO4. WHEREIN R1-R4 are fluorine, chlorine or perhaloalkyl groups; X1X4 are hydrogen, halogen, or alkyl halide; Y is thiourea, pyridine, quinoline, or the alkyl or hydroxyalkyl derivatives thereof; A is an accompanying anionic moiety; r is an integer from 1-2, m and n are integers from 0-20, and s is an integer from 1 up to the total negative charge of A. These compounds are useful as surface active agents and for imparting water and oil repellent properties to various substrates such as textiles, leather and paper.
