Abstract:
A method controls a wireless network, which includes a controller and a plurality of network elements. The method includes determining interference in the wireless network using radio-link measurements, generating an interference matrix identifying the interference in the wireless network, and generating an adjacency matrix based on the interference matrix identifying locations having unacceptable levels of interference in the wireless network. The method also includes allocating channels and corresponding transmission powers in the wireless network to reduce the unacceptable levels of interference. The method is performed at predetermined fixed time intervals and when a new network element is added to the wireless network.
Abstract:
A method includes inspecting a packet stream sent from a set-top box device via a network. The packet stream includes video content that is divided into a plurality of subsections. The method includes generating a plurality of signatures by applying a wavelet transform to each of the plurality of subsections, and determining a match between the video content and protected video content based at least in part on a comparison of the plurality of signatures to one or more stored signatures generated based on the protected video content.
Abstract:
A method of operating a cellular telephone comprises presenting a user with an option of a first rule or a second rule, and accepting a selection of the first rule or the second rule. The first rule relates to a voice message, and the second rule relates to a text message. The method determines that reception is not sufficient to establish communication, and stores an address of an intended recipient. The method also stores the voice message if the first rule was selected or the text message if the second rule was selected. When reception is sufficient to establish communication, the stored message is sent to the address.

Abstract:
A method includes receiving, by a server, a data transmission of video content destined for a data storage device. The method includes generating, by the server, a content signature by application of a wavelet transform to a plurality of frames of a time sequence of frames of the video content. The method includes selecting, by the server based on content metadata for the video content, particular prohibited content signatures from a plurality of prohibited content signatures. Each prohibited content signature of the particular prohibited content signatures corresponds to a wavelet transform of a plurality of frames of prohibited content. The method also includes, in response to a first determination that a first prohibited content signature of the particular prohibited content signatures matches the content signature, preventing transmission of the video content from the server to the data storage device.
Abstract:
A system and method is disclosed for detecting distribution of multimedia content. The volume level of data traffic is monitored for a plurality of users to select any users with high-bandwidth usage. The time of day and the day of the week may be considered when determining whether a user is a high-bandwidth user. Upon selecting a user as one with high-bandwidth usage, such user may be subject to packet inspections of data traffic streams. In some embodiments, content identification parameters or watermarks are added to one or more packets in a data traffic stream carrying multimedia content.
Abstract:
A method is provided for managing performance of a wireless network by a server. The method includes generating performance data of the wireless network by having a plurality of network elements communicate with each other to determine signal attenuation among each pair of the plurality of network elements. The method also includes determining interference within the wireless network interference based on generated performance data, and generating an interference matrix identifying the interference in the wireless network. The method further includes generating an adjacency matrix, based on the interference matrix, identifying locations having unacceptable levels of interference in the wireless network, and allocating channel frequencies and corresponding transmission powers in the wireless network based on the adjacency matrix, in order to maximize an aggregate throughput of the wireless network.
Abstract:
A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a base station having a wireless transceiver operable in compliance with a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access protocol, and a controller to manage the wireless transceiver. The controller can be operable to receive a request from a communication device to access the base station, and to direct the communication device to a second base station upon determining that granting wireless access to the communication device reduces an operating performance of the base station below an operating threshold of the base station. Additional embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract:
A system for targeted advertising is disclosed having with a non-transitory computer readable storage medium, having a computer program stored therein, the computer program including but not limited to instructions to map each of N channel numbers to the new and unique channel number at a set top box when a subscriber selects one of the N channel numbers, wherein each of the N channel numbers is the same in each of the K advertising groups, and wherein each of the N channel numbers is mapped to a different new channel number in each of the K advertising groups.
