Polyolefin fibers and polyolefin yarns of high strength and elongation and textile fabrics produced therefrom, which consist of modified propylene polymers, unmodified propylene polymers and adjuvants, are produced by melting the polyolefin mixtures in the extruder, transferring the melt by extrusion pumps to the spinnerets and drawing off the extruded filaments by high-speed galettes and/or winders. The polyolefin fibers and polyolefin yarns of high strength and elongation and the textile fabrics produced therefrom are suitable for the production of textiles for the home, multilayered textiles, industrial textiles, nonwoven materials in medicine and hygiene and elastic hygiene articles.

Structurally isomeric poly(alkyl ethylenes) with H and Y structures, polymeric bridging segments and a Y index of 2×10−3 to 8×10−3 (kJ/mole/degree), have decreased instability in the melt and more advantageous processing properties. The structurally isomeric poly(alkyl ethylenes) with H and Y structures are synthesized by an irradiating method, a melt reaction method or a solid phase reaction method by reacting poly(alkyl ethylenes) with 0.05 to 5% by weight of monofunctional, difunctional and polyfunctional monomers, optionally in the presence of peroxides. The structurally isomeric poly(alkyl ethylenes) are suitable for producing films, sheets, panels, coatings, pipes, hollow objects and foams.

Fine-celled polyolefin foams of high dimensional stability at elevated temperatures and high stiffness, with foam densities ranging from 10 to 600 kg/m.sup.3, consisting of mixtures of polypropylenes and polyolefins, which were reacted with bifunctional, unsaturated monomers and/or hydrolyzable, ethylenically unsaturated organosilane compounds in the presence of thermally decomposing free radical-forming agents in two reactive process steps and subsequently foamed. The fine-celled polyolefin foams are suitable for use in the packaging sector, preferably for packaging foods, for external and internal parts of motor vehicles and for components of electric and electronic equipment.

Polyolefin foam materials of high dimensional stability at elevated temperatures are produced from modified polypropylenes and unmodified polypropylenes. The modified polypropylenes used are produced by mixing polypropylene particles with thermally decomposing free radical-forming agents, absorbing readily volatile bifunctional monomers and heating and melting the mixture. Areas of application for the polyolefin foam materials of high dimensional stability at elevated temperatures are the packaging sector, motor vehicle parts, sports and leisure equipment, industrial applications, as well as applications in the building sector.
