    摘要: A system for controlling the temperature of an exhaust stream from an engine at a location upstream from an exhaust aftertreatment apparatus includes a main exhaust passageway adapted to receive the exhaust stream from the engine. A side branch is in communication with the main exhaust passageway. A regeneration unit is positioned within the side branch for combusting a fuel and heating the exhaust flowing through the main exhaust passageway. An ion sensor is operable to output a signal indicative of the presence of fuel combustion. A controller selectively operates the regeneration unit to increase the exhaust temperature. The controller is operable to control a supply of fuel to the regeneration unit based on the ion sensor signal.

    摘要: An emissions system for reducing nitrogen oxides in engine exhaust includes an emissions catalyst having an inlet adapted to receive an exhaust from the engine. A fuel tank is adapted to provide fuel for combustion within the engine. A first injector is operable to inject fuel into the exhaust upstream of the catalyst. A second injector is operable to inject supplemental reductant from a supplemental reductant tank into the exhaust upstream of the catalyst. A controller is operable to control the first and second injectors and vary the supply of fuel and supplemental reductant into the exhaust to reduce nitrogen oxides within the exhaust.

    摘要: A component for a vehicular exhaust pipe includes an upstream venturi forming portion for creating at least a partial vacuum interior to the component. A downstream diverter housing portion of the component has an inlet coupled to an outlet of the venturi portion. The diverter housing portion includes the diverter element positioned adjacent an output of the diverter housing portion for forcing axially central exhaust flow radially outward toward a wall of the diverter housing. The partial vacuum in the component device causes colder environmental ambient air to enter an inlet of the component. The diverter also creates a mixture of hot exhaust flow with the colder environmental air, resulting in a lower temperature of the exhaust gas exiting the component and substantial elimination of centrally disposed exhaust hot spots.

    摘要: A system for treating an exhaust stream from an engine includes a main exhaust passageway adapted to receive the exhaust stream from the engine. A side branch is in communication with the main exhaust passageway. A regeneration unit is positioned within the side branch for combusting a fuel and heating the exhaust flowing through the main exhaust passageway. A lean NOx catalyst is positioned within the main exhaust passageway downstream of the regeneration unit. A reductant injector is positioned downstream of the regeneration unit and upstream of the lean NOx catalyst to inject reductant particles into the exhaust stream. A controller operates the regeneration unit to increase the exhaust temperature as well as operates the reductant injector to reduce NOx within the lean NOx catalyst.

A second parallel exhaust passageway is in fluid communication with the combustion chambers and contains the second emission treatment device. The first and second passageways share a common wall having a serpentine shape such that the cross-sectional area of the passageways varies along a direction of exhaust flow. The first emission treatment device is positioned at a location of increased cross-sectional area in the first passageway and the second emission treatment device is positioned at an axially offset location of increased cross-sectional area in the second passageway.
