An additive for cationic electrodepositable coating compositions is disclosed which improves hiding ability, stability, rheology and oil spot resistance. The additive is present in amounts of between 0.5 to 40 weight percent and is prepared by polymerizing in aqueous medium, under free radically initiated conditions, an aqueous dispersion of a polymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated monomer composition in the presence of a cationic polymeric surface active substance. The coating composition additionally has between 60 to 99.5 weight percent of a cationic salt group containing film forming polymer. Also disclosed is a method for coating which includes electrodepositing the above composition on an electrically conductive cathode.

The catalyst includes molybdenum and/or tungsten and an inorganic metal phosphate and/or arsenate wherein at least the inorganic metal phosphate and/or arsenate is substantially insoluble in the olefin hydroperoxide reaction mixture. The metal portion of the inorganic metal phosphate and/or arsenate is one or more metals selected from the group consisting of the metals found in Groups I to III, VIIb and VIII, of the Periodic Table of Elements. Preferred metals include aluminum, iron, zinc and mixtures of these metals.

A process for recovering bitumen from oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions is disclosed wherein water soluble demulsifiers are used. These demulsifiers are polymers of specific quaternary ammonium monomers or co-polymers of these quaternary ammonium monomers wth other types of monomers wherein the greater portion of the co-polymer is comprised of the quaternary ammonium monomers. To resolve the bituminous petroleum emulsions, the process is carried out between 25.degree. and 160.degree. C. wherein the demulsifier of the invention is contacted with the bituminous emulsion.

The invention is a method for making reaction injection molded polyurethane of improved properties. The method comprises injecting into a mold cavity a high molecular weight polyhydric polyether, a low molecular weight active hydrogen containing compound of at least two functionality, a polyisocyanate and a catalyst comprising polymers substantially without active hydrogens containing tertiary amine moieties. This catalyst results in improved paintability when using high solids paint. Reaction injection molded elastomers are useful as molded articles of commerce including, but not limited to, vehicle body parts.

New catalysts for isocyanurate foams are those comprising aminomethacrylate salts. The foams are obtained by the polymerization of an aromatic polyisocyanate, and a polyether or polyester polyol in the presence of a blowing agent and said amino methacrylate salts falling within the following structural formula: ##STR1## where the radicals represented by R when taken singly are lower alkyl, and hydroxy lower alkyl, and when taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom are selected from the group consisting of morpholino, C-substituted morpholino, N-alkylpiperazino and C-substituted N-alkylpiperazino, and M is selected from the group consisting of sodium, potassium, cesium, lithium and rubidium. The novel foams are useful in preparing rigid, flexible, semi-rigid, or semi-flexible materials such as panels, slabs or sprayed foam surfaces.

Hydroxy functional, unsaturated diesters are disclosed that comprise the esterification reaction products of unsaturated anhydrides with secondary alcohols to form monoesters, followed by oxyalkylation of the monoester with epoxy compounds, whereby a diester is formed with hydroxy functionality. Use of secondary alcohol yields monoesters less prone to disproportionation. The unsaturated diesters may be copolymerized with vinyl monomers to form hydroxy functional copolymers useful in coating applications, wherein they may be included in compositions along with a curing agent that is reactive with hydroxy groups.
