    摘要: A blood sampling device (10) is provided with a housing (12), an end cap (60) adapted to be connected to the housing (12), and a lancet (32) which is movable in a lancing direction between a retracted position in which the lancet (32) does not extend outside of the end cap (60) and an extended position in which the lancet (32) is adapted to make a puncture having a depth. The blood sampling device (10) includes an actuator mechanism for causing the lancet (32) to move from the retracted position to the extended position and an attachment mechanism for allowing the end cap (60) to be securely attached to the housing (12) by moving the end cap (60) in a direction parallel to the lancing direction from a removed position in which the end cap (60) is separated from the housing (12) to a secured position in which the end cap (60) is securely attached to the housing (12) and a mechanism for adjusting the puncture depth of the lancet (32).

    摘要: An optical reagent format with a precise capillary channel is made by molding a format on a carrier of a precise predetermined thickness. The carrier includes an insert at least a portion of which is molded in the format. Once the format is made, the insert is detached from the carrier and removed from the format leaving a precisely dimensioned capillary channel with an inlet and vent. A reagent may be applied in the capillary channel and the format used to measure the analyte in a fluid such as blood. An electrochemical sensor with a capillary channel is formed by placing a sacrificial insert and electrodes on a sensor base and applying plastic material. After the plastic material is cured, the sacrificial is removed leaving a capillary channel in the sensor. The inserts may be removed by a tool including a clamp for clamping and holding each insert stationary and a sliding block to which the sensor is secured.

The switch is incorporated in an existing control housing of the apparatus and has a trigger mechanism for operating a microswitch to turn the apparatus on or off. The safety switch must be manually moved to permit the trigger to release the negative pressure microswitch. The microswitch reverts to an off position when the spring-loaded mechanism is released.
