    摘要: A bit attaching arrangement for a power tool has a collet nut threadably engaging a rotatably driven shaft of the power tool. The collet nut has a plurality of slots positioned on an outer peripheral surface. A first gear is disposed on the shaft so that rotation of the first gear causes rotation of the shaft. An actuating member having a second gear associated therewith is attached to the housing of the power tool. The actuating member also has a slot-engaging extension associated therewith. The actuating member is positionable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the second gear engages the first gear and the extension engages one of the slots of the collet nut such that rotation of the actuating member results in rotation of the shaft while maintaining the collet nut at a generally fixed rotational location. In a second position, the first and second gears do not engage one another and the extension does not engage any of the slots of the collet nut such that the shaft can be freely rotated during operation of the power tool.

The locking mechanism includes an activation member remotely positioned from the sleeve for moving the sleeve between the locked and unlocked position.

    摘要: A rotary device has a releasable tool holder. A spindle with two ends has one end adapted to secure to a rotary device and the other includes a bore to receive a tool. A mechanism to retain and release the tool from the spindle bore is coupled with the spindle adjacent the bore end. At least two unlike retention members to apply a force on the tool in the bore are adjacent the bore. A sleeve surrounds the bore end of the spindle as well as the at least two unlike retention members. The sleeve has a common surface to apply a force on the at least two unlike retention members such that when the sleeve is axially moved along the spindle, the force is varied with respect to the position of the surface on the retention member. This force maintains the tool in the bore or enables the tool to be removed from the bore. A biasing member maintains the sleeve in a retention position on the spindle.

    摘要: A battery pack 13 comprises an elongated cylindrical, metal casing 35, a plurality of cells 41, 43 in casing 35 and three coaxial pack terminals 46, 54, 61. For enhanced convenience, pack terminals 46, 54, 61 are electrically connectable in a cordless device 11 regardless of the angular orientation of the pack 13 about casing axis 33. To reduce cost and increase durability, pack 13 has no welded connections and will permit high current discharge rates. Cells 41, 43 are electrically connected but are mechanically disconnected. A spring 73 engages cell 41 and biases cells 41, 43 tightly together in compression to form good, low resistance electrical contact between cells 41, 43, casing base cap 45 and top 53. To provide a pack with two output voltages, the third pack terminal 61 has a polarity (relative to first pack terminal 46) the same as second pack terminal 54 and is electrically connected to the cell can terminal 43b of forward cell 43, thereby electrically by-passing cell 43.

    摘要: A variable speed trigger switch particularly adapted for use with electric power tools such as drills. The trigger switch features clam shell construction and a single vertically disposed circuit board thereby facilitating assembly and resulting in a low cost and compact unit. Wire connections are kept to a minimum through use of the circuit board in accordance with this invention having power contact resistance and wire terminal connectors formed directly on the board. The trigger switch includes a locking feature enabling the trigger switch to be locked at a desired position and further provides an adjustable detent which can be felt by the user during trigger retraction. The electronics package of the trigger switch employs an electronic motor speed control circuit which provides a combination of open loop and closed loop motor control.

    摘要: A permanent magnet motor for use in such electrically-powered devices as appliances, power tools, and the like includes a longitudinally-split cylindrical ferromagnetic wrapper having an inner diameter normally less in its free state than the outer cross-sectional dimension of a permanent magnet array. During assembly of the motor, the split wrapper is expanded to fit around the magnet array, and then is allowed to contract, to urge the magnet array radially inwardly against cooperating surfaces formed on each of two end caps. This maintains a predetermined orientation or alignment of the magnet array relative to the armature, including, for example, a predetermined air gap between the magnet array and the armature. Accordingly, the conventional requirement for such additional retention mechanisms as spring clips, adhesives, fasteners, and the like, is eliminated. The split wrapper also automatically aligns the respective bore axes of the end caps with respect to each other and with respect to an armature axis, regardless of any pre-existing axial misalignment of the edges defining the split in the wrapper. This automatic alignment enhances the lives of bearings mounted in the end cap bores. Another feature is the use of multi-function, unitary end caps, namely those which not only contain motor element alignment features, but also one or more integral electrical and mechanical connection features.
