Novel compounds according to the present invention, i.e. derivatives of .alpha.,.omega.-bis-alkyl esters of isobutyric acid having the formula: ##STR1## A method for preparing the above-specified novel compounds consists in reacting .alpha.,.alpha.'-azo-bis-isobutyric acid dinitrile and a saturated alkyl monohydric alcohol derivative of the formula ROH, wherein R: ##STR2## with gaseous hydrogen chloride in an organic solvent medium in the presence of 0.5-5% by mass of a water-soluble ether at a temperature within the range of from -5.degree. to +6.degree. C., followed by treating the resulting reaction mixture with water at a temperature of from 0.degree. to -5.degree. C. and isolation of the desired product. The novel compounds according to the present invention are useful as initiators for a radical-type polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds, as well as the starting products for the manufacture of reactive polymers by a simplified process.

According to the invention, the method for producing mineral polymer fillers containing graft hydroperoxide groups consists in treating mineral fillers at a temperature of 50.degree. to 150.degree. C. and a pressure of 1.33.10.sup.2 to 4.10.sup.5 Pa (1 mm Hg to 4 atm) with organosilicon compounds of the general formula:R.sub.4-y SiX.sub.yorR'R.sub.3-z SiX.sub.z,whereR is vinyl, allyl or norbornyl,X is chlorine, alkoxy or acyloxy,y=1-3,z=1-2,R' is methyl, ethyl or propyl, whereupon the mineral filler containing graft unsaturated groups is separated from the reaction mixture, dried and ozonized with an ozone-oxygen mixture containing 4 to 6 percent by volume of ozone at a temperature of -20.degree. C. to +20.degree. C. in an aliphatic saturated monohydric alcohol or aliphatic saturated monohydric acid. The method for producing mineral polymer fillers containing graft hydroperoxide groups is quite simple and makes it possible to carry out the filling and grafting of polymers at a reduced temperature of 50.degree. to 140.degree. C.

The process for producing mineral fillers with graft peroxy groups for polymers according to the present invention comprises treatment of mineral fillers, at a temperature of from 50 to 150.degree. C. under a pressure of from 1.33.10.sup.2 to 4.10.sup.5 Pa (lmmHg to 4 atm), with an organosilicon compound of the formula:R.sub.4-y SiX.sub.y or R'R.sub.3-z SiX.sub.z, whereinR is vinyl, allyl, norbornyl,X is chlorine, an alkoxy or acyloxy,y=1-3,z=1-2,R' is methyl, ethyl, propyl, whereafter the mineral filler containing graft unsaturated groups is separated from the reaction mixture, dried and ozonized with an ozone-oxygen mixture containing 4 to 6 vol.% of ozone at a temperature of from -40.degree. to +20.degree. C.The process for producing mineral fillers with graft peroxy groups for polymers is technologically simple and makes it possible to perform extending and grafting of a polymer at lower temperatures (50.degree.-140.degree. C.).
