Provided is a pyrogenically prepared SiO2 powder in the form of aggregated primary particles having a statistical thickness surface area (STSA) of 10-500 m2/g, a thickening action based on the STSA of 4-8 mPas·g/m2, and a micropore volume of 0.03-0.07 cm3/g, and a process for preparing the pyrogenic SiO2 powder, which involves: introducing hydrolyzable silicon compounds, a primary gas comprising oxygen, and a primary combustion gas into a mixing chamber to produce a mixture; igniting the mixture in a burner to produce a flame, which is burned into a reaction chamber to produce the pyrogenic SiO2 powder and gaseous substances; and separating the pyrogenic SiO2 powder from the gaseous substances, wherein a ratio of the amount of primary combustion gas introduced to a stoichiometric amount of primary combustion gas required is referred to as gammaprimary and has a value of less than 1, and wherein a ratio of the amount of primary gas comprising oxygen introduced to a stoichiometric amount of primary gas comprising oxygen required is referred to as lambdaprimary and has a value of greater than 1.

An air conditioning module having all the necessary components for conditioning air, is so sized and arranged that when placed in an internal compartment of a bus, has its respective openings register with an existing return air duct and a supply air duct on the bus. The compartments and modules are so arranged that they can be paired in back-to-back relationship, with one on each side of a longitudinal center line of the bus. Each of the modules has an intermediate partition dividing the module into an upper evaporator section and a lower condensing section. A mixer flap is placed in an intermediate position with respect to the partition such that its position may be selectively adjusted to thereby vary the amount of fresh air and return air that is passed through the condenser coil and evaporator coil, respectively.

A module is provided for attachment to the roof of a bus and includes all of the necessary components for conditioning the return air from the passenger compartment and delivering conditioned air thereto. Each module may include an evaporator section, a condenser section and a power section including a compressor and an inverter. The condenser section includes a condenser coil and a transverse fan with its axes disposed horizontally so as to draw air through a fresh air intake opening, through the coil and out a condenser discharge opening. The drain pan is shaped so as to form an air guiding wall around the fan, and a vortex wall is attached to the condenser coil support structure to separate low and high pressure sides of the fan. A rear wall and the fins of a discharge grill are angled with respect to the vertical plane so as to thereby prevent a recirculation of hot discharged air back into the air intake opening.

The compressor is mounted proximate to the roof of the bus and external to the passenger compartment of the bus and the compressor oriented such that the longitudinal axis of the compressor is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bus.

In a bus rooftop air conditioner having a fresh air inlet for routing fresh air to an evaporator coil by way of a passageway and including a frame located in the passageway for the receiving a filter therein. A hinge mounted grill has a body portion for covering the fresh air inlet, while at the same time having a extended arm coming into contact with the filter to hold it in position. The filter can be removed and replaced by simply rotating the grill member to an open position to thereby disengage the extended arm from the filter and allow it to be removed. The grill member has integrally connected and substantially normally extending guide vanes near its other end which, when the grill is the covering position, extends into a condenser discharge opening to thereby act as diffusers within that opening.
