摘要： A method and apparatus for preprocessing digital voice data enroute to or from a Telephone's CODEC. The apparatus supports a CODEC directly connected to an internal bus and using a separate CODEC clock and sync signal to control transfers between a telephony link/internal bus interface and the CODEC. According to an embodiment of the present invention, an auxiliary processing device (connected to the internal bus side of the phone) is provided with means to process the digital voice information before sending it uplink or to the CODEC. This is accomplished without changing the position of the incoming voice field.

摘要： A method and apparatus for transferring data between telephony communications lines having different frame transmission rates. A downlink data frame according to a first protocol (e.g. a ROLMlink frame) is transmitted, at a first data rate, from a private branch exchange (PBX) to a telephone's network interface. One or more fields of data from this frame are collected in shift register which is internal to the interface. After collection, the data is injected into a downlink data frame of the telephone's internal protocol (e.g. a GCI frame), which is being transmitted on the telephone side of the interface at a second data rate (different from the first data rate). Simultaneously with the injecting, one or more fields of data from an uplink data frame of the telephone's internal protocol are shifted into the same register for later injection into an uplink data frame, of the external protocol, destined for the PBX. This later injection occurs simultaneously with data from another downlink data frame, from the PBX side of the interface, being collected in the register.

摘要： A VCSEL (vertical cavity surface emitting laser) is formed on the top surface of the substrate having an opposed bottom surface. In one exemplary embodiment, the opposed bottom surface is polished and coated with an anti-reflective coating. A photodetector is disposed beneath the bottom surface and is capable of detecting light emitted by the VCSEL. In another embodiment, an angle selective filter is disposed between the photodetector and the unpolished and uncoated bottom surface. The apparatus urges light emitted by the VCSEL to be detected by the photodetector and limits light from other sources from reaching the photodetector. A method for monitoring the optical output of a VCSEL includes providing one of the exemplary apparatuses, causing the VCSEL to emit light that is detected by the photodetector, and adjusting the optical output of the VCSEL based on the amount of light detected by the photodetector.

摘要： Selectively oxidized vertical cavity lasers emitting at about 1290 nm using InGaAsN quantum wells that operate continuous wave below, at and above room temperature are reported. The lasers employ a semi-insulating GaAs substrate for reduced capacitance, high quality, low resistivity AlGaAs DBR mirror structures, and a strained active region based on InGaAsN. In addition, the design of the VCSEL reduces free carrier absorption of 1.3 μm light in the p-type materials by placing relatively higher p-type dopant concentrations near standing wave nulls.

摘要： In a chair having a frame, a fixed seat, and a pivotal back, the frame includes two bridge-supporting legs extending between an upper position and a lower position behind and below the upper position. A transverse bridge fitting removably into openings in the bridge-supporting legs bridges the bridge-supporting legs in at least two orientations. The bridge limits pivotal movement of the back, when pivoted downwardly and backwardly, to at least two reclined positions. In one contemplated embodiment wherein the transverse bridge comprises a beam fitting removably and nonrotatably into the openings and bridging the bridge-supporting legs in two such orientations, a spacer extending along and mounted fixedly to the transverse beam is interposed between the transverse beam and the back in one such orientation but not in the other orientation. In other contemplated embodiments wherein the transverse bridge comprises a transverse axle, similar spacers mounted fixedly to the transverse beam are interposed between the transverse beam and the back, each spacer having a bearing surface conforming generally to a spiral or to a closed, curved shape when viewed axially and adapted to bear against the back at varying radial distances from the axis.
