摘要: A process for severing a tube sheet made from a polymeric material to expose bores of hollow fibers having the ends thereof embedded in the tube sheet, with the tube sheet having a cylindrical configuration and a stress raiser extending around the periphery thereof, wherein a ring having a lower coefficient of expansion than the material of the tube sheet is positioned to encircle the tube sheet at a location adjacent to the stress raiser. The tube sheet is then heated to expand it to the point where stress causes the tube sheet to fracture off that portion of the tube sheet encircled by the ring from the remainder of the tube sheet to expose bores of the fibers.

摘要: Apparatus for separating one gas from a mixture of gases wherein a cylindrical shell having an enlarged end portion houses a bundle of hollow fiber membranes, the hollow fiber membranes extending through a polymeric tube sheet positioned in and secured to the enlarged end portion of the shell. A tubular distribution element secured to the tube sheet and extending into the cylindrical shell cooperates with the tube sheet and the enlarged end portion of the shell to form an annular chamber surrounding the distribution element. The distribution element is provided with a port positioned between the tube sheet and a gas inlet in the enlarged end portion of the shell, the port being positioned such that0.4.ltoreq./D.ltoreq.1.30.2.ltoreq.d/D.ltoreq.0.6where d is the distance from the tube sheet to the port; l is the distance from the tube sheet to the inlet opening and D is the diameter of the bundle of hollow fiber membranes.

摘要: An apparatus is disclosed for shaping the cross-section of a metal wire or metal ribbon product obtained by slitting metallic coil stock into multiple lengths of wire with an aspect ratio of 1 or ribbon having an aspect ratio of 2 or more. The product obtained from the slitting procedure is marred by the presence of a burr which impairs mechanical properties and consequently must be eliminated. In previous practice, this was achieved by feeding the slit product through the nip of a pair of mating, shaping rolls having a fixed engagement. However, problems arise from run to run when the rolls are in fixed engagement. For example, variations in the thickness of the material being processed presents difficulties with a fixed engagement. In the disclosed apparatus engagement is allowed to vary while the engagement force is held constant. In brief, this is accomplished by mounting the shaping rolls on separate support members with one of the support members being movable to permit the roll engagement to vary. A constant engagement force is maintained by the provision of a means for applying a constant downward force on the movable roll support member.

摘要: A contactor for degassing liquids includes a perforated core, a plurality of microporous hollow fibers, and a shell. The fibers surround the core and have two ends. A tube sheet affixes the ends of the fibers. A baffle is located between the tube sheets. The hollow fibers are closed at the baffle. The shell encloses the fibers, tube sheets, and the baffle. The system for degassing liquids includes a source of liquid containing a gas, a source of vacuum, and the contactor.
