    摘要: A portable spectrometer device includes an illumination source for directing at a sample, and a tapered light pipe (TLP) for capturing light interacting with the sample at a first focal ratio and for delivering the light at a second focal ratio lower than the first focal ratio. A linearly variable filter (LVF) separates the captured light into a spectrum of constituent wavelength signals; and a detector array, including a plurality of pixels, each of the plurality of pixels disposed to receive at least a portion of a plurality of the constituent wavelength signals provides a power reading for each constituent wavelength. Preferably, the TLP is lensed at one end, and recessed in a protective boot with stepped inner walls. The gap between the TLP and LVF is minimized to further enhance resolution and robustness.

    摘要: The invention provides a space-variant liquid-crystal (LC) photo-aligned waveplate having a vortex optic axis pattern, and an apparatus and method for fabricating thereof. The method in it preferred embodiment includes exposing a substrate coated with a photo-alignable material such as LPP to linearly polarized UV radiation through a wedge-shaped aperture, while rotating two of the aperture, the substrate and the polarization of the UV light, so that an exposure area performs a full rotation about a center point on the substrate, at angular velocities selected so as to form a vortex alignment pattern of a pre-defined order. An LC material is then deposited on the substrate in direct contact with the photo-alignable material so that the LC director is aligned according to the photo-induced vortex alignment pattern. The method enables to fabricate vortex waveplate of any pre-defined vortex order.

    摘要: The invention relates to a polarization compensating element (PCE) for a liquid crystal, e.g. liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS), display system manufactured using a linearly photo-polymerizable polymer (LPP) for orienting a photo-polymerizable liquid crystal polymer (LCP) film. To decrease the reflection, polarization conversion, and interference events in an LPP/LCP assembly the ΔN birefringence value of the LCP material is minimized. Dielectric coatings are added at various locations throughout the assembly for minimizing the amount of reflection, polarization conversion, and interference effects and for suppressing spatial retardance ripples.

The passive depolarizer includes a patterned half wave plate incorporating a monolithic layer of birefringent material. The monolithic layer includes a plurality of regions having fast axes with at least four different orientations. Accordingly, a polarized beam of light launched into the patterned half wave plate is substantially depolarized at the image plane.
