Abstract: Embodiments of 1,4-polybutadiene rubber compositions useful at low temperatures are provided, wherein the 1,4-polybutadiene incorporated therein comprises a cis content of at least 85 to about 92%, a vinyl content of at about 1% to about 5%, and a trans content of about 3 to about 12%, and wherein the 1,4-polybutadiene has an enthalpy of melting ΔHm of about 5 to about 25 J/g° C. as measured via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Abstract: Compatibility in polymer compounds is determined by the kinetics of mixing and chemical affinity. Compounds like reinforcing filler/elastomer blends display some similarity to colloidal solutions in that the filler particles are close to randomly dispersed through processing. Applying a pseudo-thermodynamic approach takes advantage of this analogy between the kinetics of mixing for polymer compounds and true thermally driven dispersion for colloids. The results represent a new approach to understanding and predicting compatibility in polymer compounds based on a pseudo-thermodynamic approach.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods for improving the rolling resistance of a tire rubber composition by providing a rubber composition including a rubber component which includes a majority by weight of guayule rubber where the guayule rubber includes a bagasse component, and a filler component where the filler component is free of silica, and including at least one silane in the rubber composition, where the at least one silane is selected from the group consisting of mercaptosilanes, blocked mercaptosilanes, and alkoxysilanes. Also disclosed is a tire rubber composition which comprises (a) 100 parts of a rubber component including a majority by weight of guayule rubber where the guayule rubber includes a bagasse component, (b) a filler component, where the filler component is free of silica, and (c) at least one silane selected from the group consisting of mercaptosilanes, blocked mercaptosilanes, and alkoxysilanes.
