摘要: High-viscosity elastomeric adhesive compositions including a high softening point tackifier resin in combination with a base polymer can be used to create elastomeric composite laminates having effective adhesion and elastic properties. The elastomeric adhesive compositions suitably have a viscosity between about 100,000 and about 500,000 cps at between about 300 degrees Fahrenheit (149 degrees Celsius) and about 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius). Facing layers, such as nonwoven webs, films, elastic strands, fastening material, absorbent material, and the like, can be laminated to one or both surfaces of the elastomeric compositions to form elastomeric composite laminates. A method of making such compositions and laminates involves forming the compositions into elastomeric adhesive films and/or strands.

摘要: The present invention is generally directed to webs, components, composites, and strands comprising re-activatable adhesive compositions, as well as health-and-hygiene products employing such webs, components, composites, and strands. By inputting energy to the web, component, composite, or strand (including, for example, an elastic web, component, composite, or strand) comprising a re-activatable adhesive composition, the adhesive is activated (i.e., rendered tacky) so that it can be used to join or adhere the web, component, composite, or strand to another material (or another location on the same web, component, composite, or strand). Generally, energy will be inputted to the adhesive in the form of infrared heat, heat, or ultrasonic energy, although any energy form may be used, so long as the energy is capable of activating the adhesive. Prior to activation, webs, components, composites, and strands comprising such re-activatable adhesives are convenient to handle because the adhesive is not yet tacky. Furthermore, the re-activatable adhesive may be activated at desired locations only, thereby permitting construction of bond patterns that promote desired characteristics (e.g., desired ratios of elastic properties and softness).

摘要: Continuous or continual in-line processes for forming adhesive polymer blend compositions are described, as well as the application of those blends to a variety of substrates. In one or more embodiments, a first polymer component is provided in a first vessel, and a second polymer component is provided in a second vessel. The first polymer component comprises one or more styrenic block copolymers and one or more hydrocarbon tackifier resins, and the second polymer component comprises a polyolefin. The first and second polymer components are extracted from their respective holding vessels, mixed, and applied to a substrate. In some embodiments, the first and second polymer components may further comprise various additives. Adhesive blend compositions formed from the inventive processes are also described.

摘要: A latent elastic laminate material, and methods of making latent elastic laminate materials. The laminate includes a latent polymer, which itself may or may not possess latent elasticity, that is applied to at least one elastic member while the elastic member is in a stretched configuration. The elastic member, at least partially covered with the latent polymer, is attached to at least one substrate. The amount of latent polymer applied to the elastic member may provide enough force to overcome a retractive force of the elastic member when the latent polymer is at a temperature below a softening point of the latent polymer, yet the amount of latent polymer may be small enough to allow the laminate to retract into an elastic, gathered structure when the laminate is heated to a softening point of the latent polymer. The laminate may be incorporated into a variety of articles including personal care garments and cleaning cloths.
