An information processing apparatus includes a storage unit configured to store information related to an activation of the information processing apparatus, a control unit configured to perform a control such that, in a case where the information stored in the storage unit relates to a first activation, the information processing apparatus is shifted into a standby state when power is supplied to the information processing apparatus, and in a case where the stored information relates to a second activation, the information processing apparatus is shifted into the standby state when the power is supplied to the information processing apparatus and also a signal input to the control unit is put into a particular state, and a power supply control unit configured to put the signal input to the control unit into the particular state when the information processing apparatus is not shifted into the standby state even when the power is supplied.

A power supply control unit in a power supply unit in a multi-functional peripheral turns off a PFC unit in a power-saving mode. If a return to a normal mode occurs, whether the PFC unit is to be turned on or not is controlled based on a cause of the return to the normal mode. If the PFC unit is not to be turned on or already has an ON state based on the occurrence of the return, the power supply control unit immediately causes power supply unit to start power supply based on the cause of return. If the PFC unit is turned on based on the occurrence of the return, the power supply control unit causes the power supply unit to start power supply based on the cause of return after a lapse of a delay time from the turning on of the PFC unit.

The second processor starts the verification of the program in response to the information processing apparatus being powered on. The first processor starts the execution of the program at least based on a first control signal indicating that the program is determined to be valid. The control circuit starts the supply of the power to the at least one device before the determination that the program is valid.

In order to prevent wasteful power consumption, in various embodiments, advance activation of a printer is avoided in the event of an attack on a particular port if the printer is used in a network environment with a low security strength. For example, according to one embodiment, while a GPIO signal for activating the printer in advance is generated in response to reception of print data, the GPIO assert setting is disabled if a network to which the printer is connected has a low security strength.

There is provided a communication apparatus to which a telephone is connectable. While the telephone is disconnected from a telephone line, the communication apparatus shifts to a power saving mode. The detection unit detects a calling signal received on the telephone line, by power supplied from the first power supply, while power supplied from the second power supply is stopped. The counting unit counts the number of calling signals detected by the detection unit. The power supply control unit starts supply of power from the second power supply on the basis that the number of detected calling signals counted by the counting unit reaches a predetermined number.
