Abstract: A control system for off-highway battery application powertrain systems that allows the operator to select one or more performance/operating modes. The one or more performance modes may be based on the work that needs to be accomplished using the machine vs. the hours needed before the next charge opportunity. Modes will take typically into consideration battery management system performance maps, Electric motor/inverter performance maps, pump performance maps and other systems communicating with the powertrain system. The operator is in control to optimize refill and/or next battery charge. The operator may have the option to select performance modes based on excavator performance vs. battery life. Remaining time and warning messages may be periodically sent to the operator based on the performance mode selected and current state of charge.

Abstract: A vehicle system and method of controlling a vehicle engine are provided. The method includes determining a speed of an engine in the vehicle system including a hydraulic system and a vehicle propulsion system operatively coupled to the engine. The method includes determining that the engine speed is decreasing and an actual engine speed is less than a target engine speed, and determining a current gear setting and one or more operating parameters of the hydraulic system in response to determining that the engine speed is decreasing and the actual engine speed is less than the target engine speed. The method, in response to the current gear setting being engaged and the one or more operating parameters being greater than a predetermined threshold value, includes controlling the engine speed to be higher than the target engine speed.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine operatively coupled with a variable load and an electronic control system operatively coupled with the internal combustion engine. The electronic control system is structured to receive an engine speed target value, a first engine speed feedback value, and a second engine speed feedback value. The electronic control system processes the first engine speed feedback value and the second engine speed feedback value to determine a feedforward correction value. The feedforward correction value is determined to correct for first variation between the second engine speed feedback value and the first engine speed feedback value due to variation in the variable load and to distinguish between the first variation and a second variation due to operation of the internal combustion engine. The control system processes the first engine speed feedback value target, the second engine speed feedback value and the feedforward correction value to determine an engine fueling command, and controls fueling of the internal combustion engine using the fueling command.

Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus are provided for optimizing control of the rotational speed of a fan in a vehicle so as to reduce the aerodynamic drag of a vehicle in a given operating parameter, and accordingly, to improve fuel efficiency of operation of the vehicle. Certain exemplary embodiments include determining an optimized speed of rotation of a cooling fan of the vehicle for reducing overall fuel demand in given operating conditions, and controlling rotation speed of the fan at the optimized speed in order to minimize fueling demand of a prime mover of the vehicle.
