Abstract: A fuel system for an internal combustion engine includes a fuel injector, and a fueling control unit electrically connected to a solenoid in the fuel injector. The fueling control unit energizes the solenoid with a lift current pulse to lift an armature, then energizes the solenoid with a separate capture current pulse to capture the armature at a lifted position. The solenoid is deenergized a dwell time while the armature is in flight toward the lifted position. Armature lifting speed is retarded based on the deenergizing of the solenoid so as to limit bouncing of a valve pin in the fuel injector against a stop. The techniques assist in linearizing a fuel delivery curve.

Abstract: An engine head assembly includes a double-walled fuel connector assembly in an engine head and forming a high-pressure fuel supply passage and a low-pressure fuel return passage. The engine head assembly also includes a fuel injector. A high-pressure fuel inlet path extends between a fuel inlet and spray orifices through an injector body in the fuel injector. A low-pressure cooling fuel outlet path extends between an injection control valve seat in the fuel injector and a cooling fuel outlet in a nozzle case of the fuel injector. Expelled cooling fuel is passed through the low-pressure fuel return passage in the double-walled fuel connector.

Abstract: A fuel injector assembly for a fuel-actuated fuel injector includes an injector body, and an injection control valve assembly. The injector body includes therein a low-pressure fuel passage extending from a clamping face to an armature cavity to convey spent actuating fuel to the armature cavity. The fuel injector assembly also includes a flushing drain formed by the injector body and fluidly connected to at least one of a valve pin bore in the injector body or the armature cavity. The flushing drain forms, together with the low-pressure fuel passage and the armature cavity, a cooling circuit for the spent actuating fuel. The flushing drain extends to a drain opening formed in an outer body surface of the injector body. Related methodology is also disclosed.

The fuel injector assembly may be structured to draw in low-pressure fuel, pressurize the fuel, and store the pressurized fuel in the accumulator for injection to a combustion chamber. The cap has a pressure sensor and a pressure relief valve therein, and drains fuel leaked past fluid seals between the cap and each of the pressure sensor, the pressure relief valve, and the accumulator by way of a common drain line.
