摘要： The present invention relates to a unique vacuum ring construction which can be utilized to de-air a laminated glass assembly while it is positioned within a pressurized and heated autoclave unit. The vacuum ring is constructed to minimize the amount of plastic material which can flow outwardly of the marginal edges of the glass sheet during the heating and pressurizing operation of the autoclave. The ring is provided with a channel formed therein for receiving the peripheral edge of the laminated assembly. In accordance with the present invention, at least a first length of the channel defines an inner surface having a cross-sectional configuration which generally conforms to the cross-sectional configuration defined by the outer edge surface of the laminated assembly when the ring is mounted on the laminated assembly and coupled to a vacuum source. At least a second length of the channel is provided with a recess which is positioned adjacent the juncture of the edges of the individual laminae when the ring is mounted on the laminated assembly. The recess is defined by a wall at least a portion of which is maintained in spaced apart relationship with the laminated assembly when the ring is coupled to the vacuum source.

摘要： A vaccum ring is coupled to a vacuum source and utilized to de-air a laminated glass assembly while it is positioned within a pressurized and heated autoclave unit. The vacuum ring has a channel for receiving the edge of the glass assembly and is fabricated to minimize the extrusion of the laminating material during the autoclave operation. The walls of the channel each have a single longitudinally extending groove approximately centered between the edges of the wall, and the floor of the channel includes a single longitudinally extending groove positioned to be adjacent the edge of a laceration shield layer of the glass assembly. All three grooves interconnect with the vacuum source. The channel generally conforms to the outer edge of the glass assembly with or without applied vacuum of pressure, and the provision of grooved walls greatly enhances the sealing of the ring to the glass.

摘要： A method for prepressing an assembly of stacked, superimposed glass and plastic sheets for subsequent autoclave lamination to provide a glazing. The apparatus includes a frame positioned between a delivery conveyor and a discharge conveyor and carrying prepress and support rollers. An assembly arrives on the delivery conveyor and is aligned and rotated ninety degrees before entry into the frame. The prepress rollers are rotatably mounted in pairs and attached to air cylinders which retract the rollers during entry to clear a vacuum ring which extends about the peripheral edge of the assembly such that a vacuum can be drawn on the assembly during the application of pressure and then extend the rollers into contact with an upper surface of the assembly to apply pressure thereto. The assembly is supported from its bottom side by the support rollers which are rotatably attached to the frame are located on either side of a plurality of drive rollers which are rotatably attached to the frame in pairs. The drive rollers are of different diameters and are adjustably mounted on an axis of rotation which is tilted from the horizontal path of the assembly. The drive rollers are driven to move the assembly through the frame while the prepress rollers apply pressure to the assembly. The different diameters and the tilted axis of rotation compensate for different lengths of the paths of travel of the drive rollers along the surface of assemblies of curved or bent sheets.

摘要： A flush-flush horizontal vehicle window assembly is provided that includes a sliding panel with guide pins, formed with a load-bearing shoulder, on sliding panel corners, and a frame defining a window opening. The frame is attached to two fixed panels. Upper/lower tracks are attached above/below the window opening. Each track has a leading and a trailing guide path formed through a surface of the respective tracks, where the pins partially project into the guide paths and where load-bearing shoulder surfaces smoothly and reliably slide on the track surfaces. Each leading guide path is “S” shaped and each trailing guide path is shaped in a perpendicular manner at one end, which causes the sliding panel to smoothly enter and seal the window opening in a flush manner. An aesthetically pleasing flush-flush slider results when the sliding panel is in the plane of the window opening and further in the plane of the outer vehicle body panel.

Alternatively, a removable form may be inserted into the channel, and the elastomeric member/gasket is inserted into the removable form. A suitable substrate is precisely positioned on the fixture in a predetermined position relative to the elastomeric member. An adhesion promoting primer may be applied to the substrate, and an adhesive may be applied to the gasket, or to the substrate. The elastomeric member is then bonded to the transparent substrate. Finally, the completed assembly is removed from the fixture.

A second or door platen may hold, have affixed to, or carry a second portion of a mold or molds. The door platen is placed in its closed position, and the moveable mold platen is brought up adjacent to it, so that the two portions of the mold are brought into engagement with one another. A desired molding material is injected into the mold cavity, after which the moveable platen is retracted, the door platen is opened, and the part is removed. A part to be encapsulated may be placed into the mold before the two portions of the mold are brought into engagement.

摘要： A reusable applicator tip for applying a uniform band of liquid material, such as an adhesive compound, along a selected portion of the peripheral margin of sheet material. The apparatus includes a pad block designed for receiving and transmitting liquid material onto a transfer pad for application onto the sheet material. The liquid flows through internal channels in the pad block and onto an exposed portion of the transfer pad for application onto the sheet material. The transfer pad is removed and replaced at the end of its useful life permitting continued use of the pad block. The apparatus also includes a removable edge guide which permits the selective replacement of the edge guide for varying sheets of material. Excessively worn edge guides may also be replaced without disposing of the entire pad block.

The vacuum ring has a channel for receiving the edge of the glass assembly and the walls of the channel each have a single longitudinally extending groove approximately intermediate the edges of the wall. At least one of the walls is provided with a lip like extension disposed to cover the cut-out portion of the one of the laminae. The grooves interconnect with a vacuum source. The channel generally conforms to the outer edge of the glass assembly with or without applied vacuum or pressure, and the provision of grooved walls tends to enhance the sealing of the ring to the glass.
