Abstract: Gateway apparatus and methods for providing data services (including IoT data services) which leverage existing managed network (e.g., cable network) infrastructure. The disclosed methods and apparatus enable, among other things, delivery of IoT data services in a unified manner via a common portal or IoT gateway (IoTG) which may be both remotely accessed by a user, and remotely controlled/configured by the host network operator (e.g., MSO). In one variant, the premises devices include RF-enabled receivers (enhanced consumer premises equipment, or CPEe) configured to receive (and transmit) OFDM waveforms via a coaxial cable drop to the premises, and interface with the aforementioned IoTG to enable provision of both 5G high-speed data services and lower bandwidth IoT services to the premises, all via a single coaxial cable drop in the exemplary embodiment.

Abstract: Interference on control channels using shared spectrum is managed by a base station without the use of centralized spectrum control device. A base station monitors a plurality of alternative control channels and measures received signal strength energy corresponding to each of the plurality of alternative candidate control channels. A received signal strength indicator (RSSI) is measured for each channel-beam combination. An average RSSI value is determined for each candidate control channel. A candidate control channel can be, and sometimes is, removed from further consideration for selection based on one or more RSSI based exclusion criteria. Among the remaining candidate control channels, a control channel with the lowest average RSSI is selected. The base station uses the selected control channel to transmit control information via wide control channel beams and uses one or more of the other channels to transmit data via narrow data channel beams.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for content fragmentation, distribution, protection, and re-constitution within a content distribution network. In one embodiment, the apparatus and methods enable distribution of content fragments to edge nodes (which may include user or subscriber CPE), thereby enabling edge networks or membership groups to be established wherein content can be shared solely at the edge. In one variant, high data bandwidth, symmetric uplink/downlink, low latency PHY links (e.g., 5G NR-compliant wireless interfaces) between the edge nodes participating in the edge networks or membership groups are used such that particular quality of service/experience performance requirements can be met. Distribution of the fragments also advantageously enhances redundancy and security.

Abstract: Methods and systems for converged wired and wireless access optimization are described. An access system includes a wired access system, a wireless access system deployed on the wired access system, and a resource controller in communication. The resource controller determines whether traffic usage data collected from the wired access system and the wireless access system breaches one or more congestion thresholds, determines which of the wired access system and the wireless access system is a breaching access system; determines, for the breaching access system, a contributory percentage of the traffic usage data with respect to a breached congestion threshold, and initiates resource reduction at a lower priority access system when the contributory percentage of the breaching access system is same or less than a non-breaching access system, where the lower priority access system is one of the wired access system or the wireless access system.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing and/or mitigating interference between networks without the need for a centralized controller are described. Beams are used by a base station in various embodiments. The range of one or more beams on which excessive interference is detected is decreased. If beam range reduction reduces the detected interference on a beam to an acceptable level the base station will resume operation on the beam at the reduced range. On beams on which gain reduction is insufficient to bring the detected interference to an acceptable level and still provide a usable beam, the beam may be shut off and/or beam reshaping may be tried. When other steps to mitigate interference are insufficient, a base station attempts one or more timing adjustments to see if a timing change and/or adjustment of the TDD configuration results in reduced interference, e.g., by improving timing synchronization with an interfering signal source.
