摘要: The present invention relates to second grade starches and wheat "B" starches in particular which, following conventional modification treatments to produce a correspondingly viscosity-reduced starch, are especially useful in the production of Stein-Hall corrugating adhesives. Corrugated paper board products manufactured using such adhesives have improved properties. In one aspect of the present invention there is provided a modified wheat "B" starch wherein aqueous dispersions of the modified "B" starch have reduced viscosities relative to comparable dispersions of a corresponding unmodified wheat "B" starch, the reduced viscosity not being less than about 12 centipoise grams per cubic centimeter for a specified dispersion.

Combinations of these various polysaccharide grits and other abrasive grit materials are also disclosed.

摘要: A sheet-like paper article is provided with a dry adhesive coating which can be rendered tacky by wetting with water at room temperature by preparing a starch-based adhesive preparation comprising an aqueous slurry of cold water swellable starch in water, the slurry also containing an alcohol selected from the group consisting of methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, hexanol, decanol, their isomers and mixtures thereof, and the alcohol having a concentration sufficient to substantially prevent the water from causing the starch to swell. The alcohol may be partly or completely replaced by a glycol, for example ethylene glycol or propylene glycol. The aqueous slurry is coated on a surface of the paper article, and the coated paper article is heated to remove the alcohol and/or glycol and water from the slurry coating and provide a dry starch-based adhesive coating which can be rendered tacky by wetting with water at room temperature.
