Abstract: One embodiment is directed to a virtual distributed antenna system (vDAS) that comprises at least one physical server computer configured to execute virtualization software that creates a virtualized environment. The at least one physical server computer is configured to instantiate and execute a set of one or more virtual network functions (VNFs) used to implement a virtual master unit (vMU). The vDAS further comprises a plurality of access points (APs), each of the APs associated with a respective set of coverage antennas. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Certain aspects involve selectively combining uplink transmissions in a distributed antenna system (“DAS”). For example, a unit of the DAS can receive baseband uplink transmissions from remote units of the DAS via a first channel and a second channel. The unit can generate a first combined uplink signal by combining baseband uplink transmissions received from a first subset of the remote units via the first channel that include data for transmission to a base station. The unit can generate a second combined uplink signal that includes baseband uplink transmissions received from a second subset of the remote units via the second channel and excludes or attenuates baseband uplink transmissions that are received from the first subset of the remote units via the second channel and that lack data for transmission to the base station are excluded or attenuated. The unit can transmit the combined uplink signals to the base station.

Abstract: Certain features relate to configuring a distributed antenna system (“DAS”) to interface with and manage components of facility control and monitoring systems while providing wireless communications in a cellular or public safety network. A communications module is configured for receiving facility control signals from facility control and monitoring centers and associated nodes and sensors. A signal processing module is configured to convert the facility control signals a format transportable in the DAS. The signal processing module is also configured to multiplex the facility control signals with mobile voice and data signals being transported in the DAS. The DAS configured to manage components of facility control and monitoring systems can route facility control signals to appropriate facility control centers or the nodes and sensors associated with the facility control centers.

Abstract: Systems and methods for optimized telecommunications distribution are provided. For example, a distributed antenna system can include a master unit for transceiving signals with remote units operable for wirelessly transceiving signals with mobile devices in a coverage area. A self-optimized network analyzer can be in a unit of the distributed antenna system. A self-optimized network controller in the distributed antenna system can output commands for changing operation of a component in the distributed antenna system in response to analysis results from the self-optimized network analyzer. In some aspects, the master unit includes base transceiver station cards for receiving call information in network protocol data from a network and for generating digital signals including the call information from the network protocol data for distribution to the remote units.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for generating a jitter reduced clock signal from signal transmitted over a communication medium includes receiving, with high speed data interface circuitry, a modulated signal that includes a binary encoded data stream. A recovered clock signal is generated from the modulated signal and tracks the long-term drift in the modulated signal. A jitter reduced clock signal is generated by filtering the recovered clock signal with a filtering circuit having a bandwidth sufficient to remove jitter while allowing the jitter reduced clock signal to track the drift in the modulated signal.

The power management subsystem can include a measurement module and an optimization module. The measurement module can monitor a utilization metric for a remote unit in the DAS or other telecommunication system. The power optimization module can determine whether the remote unit is underutilized based on the monitored utilization metric. The power optimization module can configure the remote unit for a low-power operation in response to determining that the remote unit is underutilized.

Abstract: A telecommunications system is provided that can re-sample a digitized signal at a resample rate that is based on one or more factors to better utilize bandwidth. The factors can include the bandwidth of the signal that the digitized signal represents, the amount of bandwidth owned or used by the carrier, the full bandwidth of the designated RF band, the bandwidth of the serial link, the frame length of the serial link, the segmentation of the frames on the serial link, and the capability of the equipment at the receiving end of a serial link. The re-sampled signal can be transmitted to another unit that is remote to the unit transmitting the signal. The other unit can include a re-sampling device that restores the re-sampled signal to a digital signal that can be converted to an analog signal for wireless transmission.

Abstract: A method of controlling uplink signal power in a distributed antenna system includes monitoring a noise condition of an uplink signal path in the distributed antenna system and determining the noise contribution from the distributed antenna system that is presented to the base station. Based on the evaluation, the uplink gain that is applied to uplink signals from the distributed antenna system to a base station is adjusted.

Abstract: An endpoint element of a distributed antenna system includes processing circuitry configured for processing a plurality of digital signals for conditioning the signals and compression circuitry configured for compressing at least one of the digital signals according to a compression scheme to yield at least one compressed digital signal and compression settings. The digital signals are combined into a single digital stream and combined and time division multiplexed onto a serial data link with the compression settings.
