摘要:
A process for the branching of saturated and/or unsaturated fatty acids and/or alkyl esters thereof comprises subjecting the fatty acids and/or alkyl esters to a skeletal isomerization reaction using a catalyst comprising a crystalline porous structure having incorporated therein a metal to form metal sites on said catalyst and isolating branched fatty acids, alkyl esters thereof, or mixtures thereof, from a reaction mixture obtained by said skeletal isomerization reaction. The catalyst used in the isomerization reaction is preferably a zeolite catalyst containing metal sites of a Group VIII metal. The process produces a mixture of fatty acids and/or alkyl esters that contain significant quantities of branched molecules.

Process for synthesizing polyol fatty acid polyesters which includes the steps of reacting an excess of lower alkyl ester with polyol to esterify hydroxyl groups thereof and form polyol fatty acid polyester, separating at least a portion of the unreacted lower alkyl ester from the polyol fatty acid polyester, and recycling the separated unreacted lower alkyl ester for further reaction with polyol or partially esterified polyol. The recycled lower alkyl ester is substantially free of lower alkyl ester degradation reaction products, such as carbonyls and free fatty acids.
摘要:
Processes for the synthesis of polyol fatty acid polyester by transesterification of a polyol comprise reacting polyol with a first portion of fatty acid lower alkyl ester to provide a first step reaction product in which substantially all of the polyol is reacted with at least one fatty acid lower alkyl ester. The processes then employ a multistage column providing substantial plug flow of liquid therein for further transesterification of the first step reaction product. Partially esterified polyol, a second portion of fatty acid lower alkyl ester and catalyst are fed to the column to form a mixture and cause further transesterification of the partially esterified polyol and fatty acid lower alkyl ester, with lower alkyl alcohol being formed as a by product. The resulting liquid mixture of reactants and product is passed in a first direction between adjacent stages through the column for further reaction of partially esterified polyol with fatty acid lower alkyl ester. An inert stripping or sparging gas is fed through the column in a second direction between adjacent stages, counter current to the flow of the liquid mixture between adjacent stages in the first direction, with radial shear agitation. The lower alkyl alcohol by-product of the polyol-fatty acid lower alkyl ester reaction is transferred from the liquid mixture to the inert gas.

Processes for the synthesis of high purity fatty acid lower alkyl esters comprise the steps of: (a) converting a fatty acid source to a product mixture comprising lower alkyl esters and by-products; (b) water-washing the product mixture at elevated temperature and elevated pressure to remove by-products; and (c) fractionally distilling the water-washed product mixture to obtain high purity fatty acid lower alkyl esters. At least a portion of the fatty acids have from about 20 to about 24 carbon atoms. The high purity lower alkyl esters have an acid value no greater than about 1.0.

A process for making ionic liquids containing ion actives, which provide fabric treating benefits, surface treating benefits and/or air treating benefits. The ionic liquid is made from an ion active feedstock and an ionic liquid forming counterion feedstock, which preferably comprises another ion active.

Sulfation or sulfonation of cellulose and cellulose ethers is conducted in an ionic liquid such as a quaternary ammonium salt. Detergent compositions containing the sulfated or sulfonated reaction product are suitable for fabric cleansing.

A benefit agent delivery system comprises a benefit agent, wherein the benefit agent is protected or stabilized by an ionic liquid and wherein the benefit agent is releasable from the system to provide the benefit. For example, the ionic liquid may be physically associated with the benefit agent, such as by coating, encapsulation, or co-crystallization, or may be chemically associated with the benefit agent, such as by chemical reaction. The benefit agent delivery system may be in the form of a concentrate, in a product formulation, or on or associated with a substrate or package. Detergent compositions may include the benefit agent delivery system.
