A method comprises the step of deoxygenating the natural oils to form a stream comprising paraffins. The paraffins are dehydrogenated to provide mono-olefins. Then, benzene is alkylated with the mono-olefins under alkylation conditions to provide an alkylation effluent comprising alkylbenzenes and benzene. Thereafter, the alkylbenzenes are isolated to provide the alkylbenzene product.

The present invention relates to powder detergent granules that are substantially free of a water-insoluble component such as zeolite or silica, a method for manufacturing the powder detergent granules and a copolymer having various properties useful as a detergent component. The powder detergent granules of the present invention are substantially free of a water-insoluble component, and thus exhibit good solubility and washing performance (stain removal performance) in cold water, do not leave residue after laundry, and reduce the likelihood of a caking phenomenon during manufacture and storage. And, the powder detergent granules of the present invention are substantially free of zeolite or silica that absorbs a liquid component, but are capable of accommodating a considerable amount of liquid surfactant. Further, a copolymer comprising acrylic acid monomer unit and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid monomer unit, an acidic water-soluble polymer of the present invention, is useful as a detergent component in various aspects.

An antimicrobial hand wash includes a soap, an antimicrobial agent, and an amine salt. The amine salt is found to increase the antimicrobial efficacy of the hand wash. The amine salt produced through the reaction of monoethanolamine and lactic acid is of particular interest as a soap addition. The present invention relates to a process for preparing a spray-dried powder comprising (i) anionic detersive surfactant; (ii) from 0 wt % to 10 wt % zeolite builder; (iii) from 0 wt % to 10 wt % phosphate builder; and (iv) optionally from 0 wt % to 15 wt % silicate salt; wherein the process comprises the steps of: (a) forming an alkaline slurry in a mixer, the slurry having a viscosity of from X to Y s−1 at a temperature of 70° C. and at a shear rate of 50 s−1, wherein the alkaline slurry is shear thinning; and (b) transferring the alkaline slurry from the mixer through at least one pump to a spray pressure nozzle; (c) contacting a viscosity increasing agent to the alkaline slurry after the mixer and before the spray pressure nozzle so as to increase the viscosity of the alkaline slurry to form a viscous alkaline slurry, step (c) being carried out at an average shear rate of from 10 s−1 to 150 s−1; (d) spraying the viscous alkaline slurry through the spray pressure nozzle into a spray-drying tower; (e) spray-drying the viscous alkaline slurry to form a spray-dried powder; and (f) optionally, contacting an alkalinity source with the alkaline slurry and/or the viscosity increasing agent, and/or the viscous alkaline slurry.

In particular, it relates to methods which allow the production of readily soluble surfactant granulates and detergent and cleaner compositions in a cost-optimized manner. In one embodiment, the invention provides compositions comprising the neutralized form of an anionic surfactant acid, sodium carbonate, and sodium hydrogencarbonate, wherein the weight ratio of sodium carbonate to sodium hydrogencarbonate is from 5:1 to 2:1.
