Abstract: The present invention relates to solvent compositions and processes for inhibiting the generation of peroxide in glycol ether solvents. In one aspect, a solvent composition comprises at least one glycol ether, at least one antioxidant containing a hindered phenol, wherein the concentration of the antioxidant in the solvent composition is less than or equal to 1,000 ppm by weight, and a peroxide, wherein the concentration of the peroxide in the solvent composition is less than 20 ppm, and wherein the APHA color index of the solvent composition is less than 25.

Abstract: A prepolymer comprising acid functionality is made by a process comprising the step of contacting: (i) a di-isocyanate, (ii) a polyol containing an acid group, (iii) a polyol without an acid group, and (iv) a metal salt catalyst, the contacting conducted under reaction conditions and in a solvent consisting essentially of: (A) a dialkyl amide, and (B) optionally, an aprotic glycol ether. The prepolymer is useful in the preparation of water-based polyurethane dispersions, and certain of the solvent blends consisting essentially of a dialkyl amide and an optional aprotic glycol ether are azeotropic or pseudo-azeotropic.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved bitumen recovery process from oil sands. The oil sands may be surface mined and transported to a treatment area or may be treated directly by means of an in situ process of oil sand deposits that are located too deep for strip mining. Specifically, the present invention involves the step of treating oil sands with a glycol ether amine described by the following structure: R-(OC2H4)x-NH2 or R-(OCH2CH(CH3))y-NH2 wherein R is a C1 to C6 alkyl group or a phenyl group and x and y independently are 1 to 3.

Abstract: Alkyl ether amines are used as foam control compounds in foodstuff processing. The alkyl ether amines can be used at various stages during industrial processing of vegetables, fruits, and plants, such as potatoes and beets. The alkyl ether amines are generally of lower molecular weights and therefore easily transported to the foam layer to break the foam structure. Further, the alkyl ether amines are water soluble and therefore can be readily removed from the food processing system.
