The apparatus may be used with printing apparatus in which a media spreading member, such as a squeegee, moves relative to a surface, causing printing medium to be moved across said surface. The printing medium can be electrical solder paste and the surface can be a stencil. The apparatus is used for measuring linking parameters that are related to mechanical properties of the printing medium and the printing environment, such as viscosity and coefficient of friction. The apparatus comprises means for measuring a machine parameter that represents the force experienced by the media spreading member and means for resolving the measured force parameter into components equivalent to two orthogonal components, typically normal to the surface and tangential to it in the direction of relative motion. The apparatus also includes means for measuring a machine parameter that represents the velocity of the media spreading member relative to the surface. Means are also provided for measuring the linking parameters by determining a specific instance of a predetermined general relation among the measured machine parameters of velocity, first force component and second orthogonal force component and the linking parameters. The means for determining a specific instance of a relation may include means for comparing at least three sets of associated measured machine parameters and, based on the comparison, identifying a relationship that shows agreement with all of the sets of measured machine parameters within a predetermined level of accuracy. A typical such means for identifying such a relationship is an apparatus that applies a least squares relationship selecting technique. Suitable general relationships for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids may be used. A method is also disclosed.

A method for making display products that generate special visual effects with autostereographic, dynamic, alternating, animated, and morphed images used in conjunction with lenticulated arrays for marketing and informational purposes. The special imaging effects, which can be integrated with discrete lenticulated container structures for data storage media and other contents, are achieved by digitally sampling and formatting source images with resampling procedures and then generating a merged image file that serves as the digital input for color printers or digital printing presses. The sampled images are printed on substrates along with registration lines or on preperforated stock preformatted for use with a corresponding lenticulated component. Afterwards, the images are separated from the substrate by either cutting them from the substrate using the printed registration lines as guides or breaking them out along the preperforated lines. In either case, the image is separated along with surrounding structure as needed to provide an intermediate image bearing subassembly that is then further folded or otherwise configured for combination with its lenticulated plastic counterpart, preferably formed by injection molding. The lenticulated plastic components are configured to either act as a receptacle for the intermediate image subassembly or to attach to it. The resampling procedures are designed so that each image segment is sampled over an interval equivalent to the full width of an individual lenticule behind which it is intended to reside but the image data obtained for printing is fit to just that fraction of the lenticule width corresponding to the space allocated based on the number of interlaced images.

An automated apparatus and method for measuring properties of optical components based on wavefront sensing and analysis. A wavefront of predetermined profile is directed at a surface to be measured so that it is more or less distorted in accordance with the shape of the surface and the distorted wavefront is sensed and analyzed. From the information derived from the distorted wavefront and other knowledge of the relationship between the surface and position of the wavefront of predetermined profile, the shape of the surface may be inferred along with other properties such as radius of curvature, focal length, conic constants, asphericity, toricity, tilt, and decentering. Concave, convex, cylindrical, and flat parts may be measured along with wavefront errors in bandpass transmitting components such as lenses, filters, and windows.

The respiratory mask may cover the nose, the mouth, or both of the user and is useful for respiratory therapies including sleep apnea. The respiratory mask may have a quick release mechanism such as a pull tab that tears a portion of the mask when pulled to allow access to the user's breathing passage or a pull string embedded in the adhesive that breaks the seal between the adhesive and the user's face when pulled.

An endoscopic imaging system includes a reusable control cabinet having a number of actuators that control the orientation of a lightweight endoscope that is connectable thereto. The endoscope is used with a single patient and is then disposed. The endoscope includes an illumination mechanism, an image sensor, and an elongate shaft having one or more lumens located therein. An articulation joint at the distal end of the endoscope allows the distal end to be oriented by the actuators in the control cabinet. The endoscope is coated with a hydrophilic coating that reduces its coefficient of friction and because it is lightweight, requires less force to advance it to a desired location within a patient.
