摘要: An improved tape laying machine for depositing and compacting composite plastic tape onto a work surface, for producing a plastic article, has a presser shoe member for applying and compacting a strip of composite plastic tape onto a work surface, and a tail compaction member for compacting the tail of the strip of composite plastic tape that are independently actuated, coordinately movable and linked to each other. The tail compaction member has a roller that engages the strip of tape substantially rearward of the point where the centerline of the presser shoe member intersects the compacted tape applied to the work surface as the presser shoe member is in compaction engagement with the tape. The tail compaction member roller then moves along a straight line path on the tape as the presser shoe member progressively retracts from compaction engagement with the composite plastic tape.

摘要: An improved tape laying machine, more particularly an improved tape laying head assembly is provided for laying plastic tape onto a work surface to produce a reinforced plastic structure. The improvement provides means for transferring the vertical movement of at least one segment of a stacked plate segmented shoe presser member, of the head assembly, as it engages the work surface to a non-terminal segment of the stacked plate segmented shoe and a sensor means, e.g. a linear variable differential transformer, sensing the movement of the non-terminal segment to produce a signal related to the movement of the non-terminal segment that can be employed to control and direct the movement of the head assembly and/or presser member. The improvement of the invention produces a smooth shimless transition of the presser member onto the work surface, from a work surface non-engaging position, in a tape laying operation.

摘要: A process for producing 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid by the liquid phase, exothermic oxidation of 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene comprising adding to a reaction zone oxidation reaction components comprising 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene, a source of molecular oxygen, a solvent comprising an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, and a catalyst comprising cobalt, manganese and bromine components wherein the atom ratio of cobalt to manganese is at least about 1:1 and the total of cobalt and manganese, calculated as elemental cobalt and elemental manganese added to the reaction zone, is less than about 0.40 weight percent based on the weight of the solvent added to the reaction zone; maintaining the contents of the reaction zone at a temperature and pressure sufficient to cause the oxidation of 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene to 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid and the vaporization of at least a portion of the reaction solvent while maintaining a liquid phase reaction mixture; condensing the vaporized solvent and returning an amount of the condensed solvent to the reaction zone to maintain the amount of water in the reaction zone at no more than about 15 weight percent based on the weight of solvent in the reaction zone; and withdrawing from the reaction zone a mixture comprising 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid.

摘要: An apparatus for making airlaid articles such as discrete absorbent cores for catamenial napkins and disposable diapers and the like. Apparatus embodying the invention preferably comprises a laydown drum having a plurality of formation cavities having foraminous bottom walls, which cavities are circumferentially spaced around the perimeter of the drum. The apparatus also preferably includes means for directing a high velocity stream of air-entrained matter such as, for example, fibers or particulate matter, substantially radially towards a relatively short circumferential span of the perimeter of the drum; and a hood having sufficient circumferential span of the drum to enable excess entrainment air to be drawn by vacuum through the foraminous bottom walls of substantially empty cavities, and to enable recirculation of the excess scarfed fibers. The method preferably includes overfilling the cavities; scarfing and recycling the excess; and compacting the deposited mass of fibers to impart structural integrity to the mass of fibers to dimensionally define the articles prior to removing the articles from their respective formation cavities.

摘要: The present invention is directed to computer systems, methods and/or hardware where one or more guest operating systems exchange instructions with the processing hardware (see DEFINITIONS section) through a controller kernel. Even though the instructions are exchanged through the controller kernel, rather than directly between the OS and the processing hardware, the controller kernel does not change the instructions out of native form. The controller kernel refrains from virtualizing or emulating the instructions. For this reason, the controller kernel cannot be considered to be and/or include middleware, a hypervisor or VMM. The use of the controller kernel can be helpful in computer systems with multiple guest OS's because it allows multiple containerized OS's to simultaneously run on a single set of processing hardware. For example, the multiple containerized OS's can be used to run multiple terminals. The use of the controller kernel may also be useful even if there is a single guest operating system. For example, a LINUX controller kernel has been found to speed up the operation of the Windows Vista operating system running as the guest OS, relative to the speed of Windows Vista running directly on the same processing hardware in the conventional way.

摘要: An improved plastic tape laying machine is provided having a spring driven spool rotationally mounted on a stationary shaft and being coupled to a flexible skid member interposed between a presser member of a tape laying head of the machine and the plastic tape being applied to a work surface. The spool applies a movement restraining force to the skid member that restricts or prevents undesired movements of the skid that lead to misalignment, delamination and other defects in a produced plastic composite article while at the same time biasing the skid against the tape detruding portion of the presser member without significantly inhibiting the working motions of the presser member.
