摘要: User interface experiences with electronic devices are enhanced with feedback cues such as haptic or vibrotactile output feedback. One or more piezoelectric actuators generate haptic output. The one or more piezoelectric actuators may be integrated onto a display substrate, a battery case, a device enclosure, or other component. Such integration may improve propagation of the haptic output to the user, reduce bulk of the electronic device, minimize parts count, and reduce production costs.

摘要: An electronic device, such as an electronic book (“eBook”) reader device, is configured with two panels connected via a hinge. A first panel includes components such as a battery, a main logic board, a wireless networking interface, and so forth while a second panel includes a display component such as an electrophoretic display. The panels may be opened for use wherein the display is visible to a user, or closed such that the first panel protects and/or obscures the second panel and the display located therein.

摘要: Substrates for components such as a display, touch sensor, multifunction stackup, and so forth may incorporate one or more haptic actuators configured to generate haptic output. These actuators may be formed from a portion of a body of the substrate, or separate pieces bonded or otherwise affixed to the substrate. Audible output resulting from activation of the actuators may be minimized by coupling the actuators such that they produce a physical displacement of the body of the substrate within, rather than orthogonal to, the plane of the body of the substrate.

摘要: Layers of a touch sensor array used by electronic devices may be incorporated into other components, such that a touch sensor array is formed upon assembly of the other components. This touch sensor array may then be used as an input device by a user. For example, one layer of a touch sensor array may be integrated into the back of a display component, forming a first integrated package. Similarly, a second layer of the touch sensor array may be integrated into the front of a battery, forming a second integrated package. Upon assembly of the display atop the battery, the touch sensor array is formed. Such integration results in simpler and less expensive assembly, reduces the count of discrete parts during assembly, and minimizes the electronic device's physical profile.

摘要: In some implementations, an electronic device includes an actuator having a coil and a magnet, at least one of which may be movable relative to the other. The coil may receive a drive current to cause movement of at least one of the magnet or the coil, such as to provide a haptic output, motivate a loudspeaker, or the like. A transceiver electrically coupled with the coil through a connection circuit may use the coil as an antenna for at least one of sending or receiving a radio frequency communication through the coil. Additionally, or alternatively, the coil may be placed into proximity to a source of a magnetic field to induce an electric current in the coil. The induced electric current may be passed from the coil to a power management system, such as to charge a battery or the like.

摘要: The present invention is a printed circuit board having conductive layers split into electrically isolated voltage supply plane regions each plane region being connectable to an external supply voltage. The voltage supply plane regions are split to reduce the total number of PCB conductive layers. Voltage supply plane regions are configured to match the device voltage requirements and their placement on the PCB. In the case in which a circuit includes a device having two voltage supply requirements, a first set of the device's power supply pins are fixedly coupled to a first voltage supply plane region and a second set of the device's power supply pins are fixedly coupled to a second voltage supply plane region. In this instance, each of the first and second voltage supply plane regions are fixedly connectable to external voltage supplies or to a voltage regulator according to the voltage supply requirements of the device.

摘要: A wide dynamic range charger module is configured to couple a variable power source such as a photovoltaic cell to a load. The module determines a maximum power point (MPPT) of the power source and based at least in part upon that MPPT selects one of a plurality of power converters to provide power to the load. The selection is such that the selected power converter is operating within its operating regime. The selected power converter may further be configured to a pre-determined input admittance which corresponds to the power source.

摘要: A digital image enhancer includes a deinterlacing processor receptive to an interlaced video stream. The deinterlacing processor includes a first deinterlacer and a second deinterlacer and provides a deinterlaced video stream. The digital image enhancer also includes a video output processor receptive to the output of the deinterlaced video stream to provide a scaled, deinterlaced video stream. A portable DVD player including the digital video enhancer has a generally thin prismatic enclosure having a first major surface, a second major surface separated from said first major surface, and side surfaces connecting the first major surface to the second major surface. At least a portion of the first major surface includes a video display, and the enclosure includes a DVD entry port such that a DVD can be inserted into the enclosure.
