摘要: An active suspension for a vehicle includes an actuator which incorporates a first rotary motor, a second rotary motor, and a transmission coupled to the first and second rotary motors to convert rotary motion to linear motion. A compensation force is determined to compensate for the rotary inertia of the system. A force feedback loop can be employed to reduce the error between the output force of the actuator and a force command supplied by an active suspension system controller.

摘要: An active vibration isolation system for isolating a suspended platform from vibration input to the vibration isolation system base includes an exoskeleton, a rotary actuator, and a drive mechanism separate from the exoskeleton for providing force output from the rotary actuator to the suspended plant. The rotary actuator may include inner and outer rotors which rotate relative to each other. The rotary actuator may be free to translate relative to the vibration isolation system base and the suspended platform, and both the inner and outer rotors may be free to rotate relative to the exoskeleton.

摘要: An active vibration isolation system for isolating a suspended platform from vibration input to the vibration isolation system base includes an exoskeleton which supports the suspended platform relative to the base. The exoskeleton includes first and second scissors mechanisms with main links of unequal length. The main links pass through a parallel condition as the suspended platform moves over its intended range of travel relative to the base. The vibration isolation system may include a rotary actuator and a drive mechanism separate from the exoskeleton for providing force output from the rotary actuator to the suspended platform. The rotary actuator may include inner and outer rotors which rotate relative to each other and may be free to rotate relative to the exoskeleton. The rotary actuator may be free to translate relative to the vibration isolation system base and the suspended platform.

摘要: A superconducting rotating machine has a relatively compact construction while still providing a relatively high output power, thus the superconducting rotating machine has an increased power density characteristic. The superconducting rotating machine includes a stator assembly, a rotor assembly configured to rotate within the stator assembly and having at least one HTS superconducting winding assembly which, in operation, generates a magnetic flux linking the rotor assembly to the stator assembly, and a refrigeration system for cooling the at least one superconducting winding. The superconducting rotating has a gap shear characteristic greater than 10 psi.

摘要: A stator coil assembly includes a cylindrical support tube with first and second pluralities of stator coils disposed radially around the support tube. Each stator coil includes first, second, third, and fourth linear segments, each having first and second planar broad sides. The second and fourth linear segments extend in parallel along a first axis with the first and second broad sides of the second and fourth linear segments lying in a common plane. The first and third linear segments extend in parallel along a second axis perpendicular to the first axis. Transition segments having first and second planar broad sides each join a pair of linear segments. The transition segments of the first and second pluralities of stator coils define curvatures toward and away from the center axis, respectively, such that the first and third linear segments are disposed at a substantially equal radial distance from the center axis.
