    摘要: The present invention provides a return port cover that can close and open a return port separate from tubing movement caused by stretching or contracting under stress or other induced pipe movement from downhole conditions. For example, the return port cover can assist in preventing pack “fluffing” by preventing unintended fluid communication through an associated downhole tool regardless of the position of a circulating valve means. The return port cover can be biased, so that in one position it closes the port and in another position opens the port based on relative tubing placement at different portions of the fracturing operation or other well treatment operations.

The tool is designed to be comparatively short in length to afford easier mill or drill out subsequent to the tool's useful need in the well. A plurality of anchoring elements and seal means are provided for respective anchoring and sealing engagement along the wall of the well in concert and substantially concurrently with one another when the tool is shifted to the set position.     摘要: A high energy firing mechanism for a well perforating gun comprises a downwardly directed shaped charge which is discharged by an impact detonatable primer. The explosive jet developed by the downwardly directed shaped charge impinges upon a booster charge which in turn is connected to a primer cord leading to the shaped charges of a perforating gun. Sufficient detonating energy is produced to assure high energy detonation of the booster charge and primer cord, even though such elements may be formed from a thermal resistant explosive.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for effecting the firing of a perforating gun having a plurality of vertically spaced, shaped charges wherein the firing is accomplished from the lowermost shaped charge to the uppermost shaped charge. In one modification, the detonation of the shaped charges is accomplished by a primer cord extending through all the gun sections, which is detonated only by a booster charge located in the bottom portion of the perforating gun housing. The booster charge is in fluid communication with the interior of the housing and, upon the occurrence of leakage of well fluids into the housing, the booster charge is rendered ineffective, thus preventing the firing of the perforating gun when the lower portion of the gun is filled with well fluids. In another modification, a conventional primer cord with booster charges on each end is inserted in each gun section, as is a length of flame-transmitting tubing. A flame is conveyed by such tubing from the top of the gun to the bottom to ignite a booster charge which causes the detonation of the primer cord in the bottom section, which detonation moves upwardly through all the gun sections.

    摘要: A method and apparatus effecting the perforating of a well casing and the gravel packing of the perforated areas of the well casing of a combined perforating and gravel packing apparatus. This desirable objective is accomplished by a perforating gun construction permitting complete flexiblility to adjust in the field the number of horizontally and veritcally spaced shaped charges through the provision of a polygonal carrier having vertically spaced holes provided in each of its planar sides to accommodate vertically spaced horizontal groups of shaped charges with the charges in one horizontal group being angularly displaced relative to the charges in a vertically adjacent horizontal group. Additionally, the crossover mandrel employed in the gravel packing operation provides, in its run-in position, a continuous axial passage through its entire length, permitting a detonating device to be placed therethrough to actuate the perforating gun. Subsequent to the perforating operation, a ball is dropped and seated on an annular sleeve carried within the hollow mandrel which permits the development of internal pressure within the mandrel. Such internal pressure is employed not only to effect the setting of a fluid pressure actuated packer but also to shift the ball supporting sleeve downwardly and uncover a crossover port in the mandrel which permits the gravel packing operation to be carried out conventionally.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for effecting the perforation of a well casing and the adjoining production formation comprises a tubular housing connected between a perforating gun housing and the lower end of a tubular string. The perforating gun housing contains a firing mechanism, and the tubular housing contains a radial port normally closed by a sleeve. The sleeve is inserted at the surface in an open bottom, annular chamber, thus trapping surface ambient air between one end of the sleeve and the closed end of the fluid pressure chamber. The other end of the fluid pressure chamber is connected by fluid passage means to the interior of the perforating gun housing, hence gas pressure generated by the discharge of the perforating gun and formation fluid pressure produced by formation fluids flowing through the newly formed perforations are brought in contact with the other end of the sleeve. The sleeve is shear pinned in its port closing position, but is shiftable to a port opening position by the excess fluid pressure forces exerted by the firing of the perforating gun and the flow of formation fluids into the perforating gun housing. Normally, the fluid pressure in the tubular housing at the time of perforating is substantially less than the anticipated formation fluid pressure.

    摘要: A combination well flow control device having a passage therethrough for conducting fluids from the exterior to the interior of the tubing, this device having pressure responsive valve means therein for controlling flow of fluids such as well treating chemicals through the flow passage at very low rates and also having a bypass passage which is initially closed by a sleeve valve but which is openable to permit high injection rates therethrough as for injecting water or the like fluid into the tubing at a very high rate as for killing the well. When the sleeve valve has been moved to bypass opening position, the valve flow passage is short-circuited through the bypass, and in one embodiment that portion upstream of the sleeve valve is shut off. After the sleeve valve has been moved to open position, it will remain at that position. The device also includes a check valve for preventing backflow therethrough regardless of whether the bypass is open or closed.
