    摘要: Coated medical implants have an implant body configured for securing in or adjacent to body tissue of a patient. The implant body has an implant surface and a coating is formed on at least a portion of the implant surface. The coating includes a coating outer surface of a first chemical component that is chemically bonded to a carboxylate functionality of a second chemical component. The second chemical component is immobilized by amide linkage to an underlying third chemical component that is plasma coated directly onto implant body surfaces. The coating either inhibits or prevents the adhesion of protein and/or cellular proliferation or may be a non-fouling coating.

    摘要: Improved soft, foldable acrylic lens materials which are particularly suited for use as IOLs, but which are also useful as other ophthalmic devices, such as contact lenses, keratoprostheses, and corneal rings or inlays, are disclosed. These materials contain only two principal components: one aryl acrylic hydrophobic monomer and one hydrophilic monomer. The materials of the present invention are copolymers comprising at least about 90% by weight of the two principal monomeric components; provided that the amount of the hydrophilic component is not greater than that of the aryl acrylic hydrophobic component. The remainder of the material comprises up to 10% by weight of one or more additional components, such as cross-linking, UV-light absorbing, and blue-light absorbing components. The aryl acrylic hydrophobic monomers suitable for use in the materials of the present invention have the formula ##STR1## wherein: X is H or CH.sub.3 ; m is 0-6; Y is nothing, O, S, or NR, wherein R is H, CH.sub.3, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 (n=1-10), iso-OC.sub.3 H.sub.7, C.sub.6 H.sub.5, or CH.sub.2 C.sub.6 H.sub.5 ; and Ar is any aromatic ring which can be unsubstituted or substituted with H, CH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5, n-C.sub.3 H.sub.7, iso-C.sub.3 H.sub.7, OCH.sub.3, C.sub.6 H.sub.11, Cl, Br, C.sub.6 H.sub.5, or CH.sub.2 C.sub.6 H.sub.5.

    摘要: High refractive index copolymers suitable for use in ophthalmic devices are disclosed. The copolymers comprise a) two or more monomers of the structure: wherein: X is H or CH3; m is 0-10; Y is nothing, O, S, or NR wherein R is H, CH3, CnH2n+1(n=1-10), iso-OC3H7, C6H5, or CH2C6H5; Ar is any aromatic ring which can be unsubstituted or substituted with H, CH3, C2H5, n-C3H7, iso-C3H7, OCH3, C6H11, Cl, Br, C6H5, or CH2C6H5; a crosslinking monomer having a plurality of polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated groups, and b) a total of about 5 mole % or less of one or more monomers of the structure: wherein: X is H or CH3; W is —CH3 or (CH2═C(—X)—C(═O)—); and n is such that the weight average molecular weight is approximately 600-1000 if W is —CH3 and approximately 400-1000 if W is (CH2═C(—X)—C(═O)—).
