    摘要: A machine-vision-based counter includes an image acquisition component (imager), wherein light provides discrimination between a background field and imageable units located away from the imager. The imager outputs data representing the field and units; an image processor receiving imager data finds countable units therein. An operator interface accepts command inputs and presents count output. A controller manages image acquisition, processor, and operator interface functions. A counting method includes configuring an imager to detect light, directing light from a source to units positioned to be detected by the imager, and directing the light to the imager. The method includes discriminating between a background field and imageable units; providing, as an imager output, data representing the field and units; configuring an image processor to receive imager data; configuring the processor to interpret the data as counted units on a background field; and configuring an operator interface to present a count result.

    摘要: An RF power detector having a wide dynamic range may comprise a chopping amplifier and is configured to detect pulsed high frequency RF signals. The chopping amplifier controlled by a bias current regulator amplifies and chops an RF signal by periodically enabling and disabling the amplifier according to a system clock. The chopped high frequency RF signal feeds a Schottky diode biased to operate in the square law region for weak signals. The Schottky diode voltage is tapped and high pass filtered. The voltage drives a logarithmic and linear converter. The converter outputs are summed to produce an output voltage that is a repeatable and stable monotonically increasing function of the RF power.

    摘要: A croquet wicket lighting unit to provide illumination in the vicinity of a wicket to facilitate playing the game of croquet under conditions of low illumination. Components are attached to a mounting plate 11 that straddles the wicket. The mounting plate universally and firmly attaches to any size or style of wicket by means of retaining straps 24 and friction pads 25 in combination with universal engaging slots 12. The illumination element directs an intense beam of focused light through a hole 13 in the mounting plate and onto the playing surface immediately under the wicket to clearly reveal the passage of a ball through the wicket. The illumination scheme also casts a larger area of more diffuse light on the playing surface immediately adjacent to the focus spot to reveal croquet balls resting therein and facilitate play around the wicket. Batteries contained in a battery holder 15, with an on-off electric switch 18, provide power through a resistor 16 to a light emitting diode 14 as the source of illumination. Light emitting diodes are selected with predetermined brightness and cone of focus to provide both intense and efficient lighting. Component selection, and design are such as to provide impact tolerance against the environment of mallet and ball strikes inherent in croquet play.

    摘要: An infra-red remote personal alarm system consists of a portable transmitter unit (10) which is intended to be worn or to be manually carried by the user, and which is operable by the user at any particular location to transmit an alarm signal in an emergency and which is to be received by a central receiving station (41) so that appropriate action can be initiated in response thereto. The transmitter unit is electrically operable and includes means (15) for transmitting pulsed infra-red alarm signals which can be picked-up by an infra-red signal receiver at the location of the user, and then retransmitted as an oscillating electrical signal via direct wiring (38, 39, 40, 42, 43) to the central receiving station (41) as a warning signal indicative at location monitoring points (43, 44) of the location from which the emergency call has been made. By making the transmitter units capable of transmitting infra-red pulsed warning signals, and suitably designing the receiver units to recognize and to receive the pulse signals for conversion into electrical signals for onward transmission to the central control station, it is possible to obtain transmission units which are robust and reliable in operation. Test facilities are also provided to enable continuous monitoring of the operational status of the transmission units and the receiver units, so as to minimize the risk of initiated emergency action of the transmission units being undetected.
