    摘要: A system for treatment of one or more flowing materials includes a support bed (32) comprising a plurality of support elements (34). The support bed may have a void fraction of at least 45%. An active bed (36), such as a bed of catalytic elements, may be supported by the support bed. The void fraction of the support bed may be larger than that of an equivalent bed of conventional, spherical elements, enabling significant improvements in the flow rate of reactants through the bed and/or a reduced pressure drop across the support bed.

    摘要: The present invention is directed toward an apparatus for the in-situ preparation of macromolecules via uniform glow discharge plasma, and a method for using the apparatus. The method and apparatus are designed for preparing macromolecules from biological materials, including at least DNA, RNA, saccharides, lipids and proteins, in a manner which eliminates the need for biological solvents or chemicals, grinders, freezing, or detergents. The present invention is capable of operating at one atmosphere of pressure. The present method is a non-destructive, thus rendering the yielded macromolecules amenable for further modification or analysis via exposure to the glow discharge plasma sustained at substantially atmospheric pressure in air or modified gas environments. The device includes a spaced apart pair of metallic electrodes. At least one of the electrodes is covered with a high dielectric insulation material. A power supply is provided for energizing the electrodes. In the method, the biological material is placed on a substrate or suspended in solution and then placed within the device. The biological material is immersed in direct contact with the plasma or an active species generated by the plasma such that the exterior of the biological material is disrupted, yielding the macromolecules generally intact and available for analysis and/or modification.

    摘要: A braking system for a lift truck performs all service braking using truck traction drive motors. Mechanical, spring applied, electrically released brakes are coupled to wheels on opposite sides of the truck with the mechanical brakes applying unequal braking forces to the wheels. The mechanical brakes perform park braking and, in the event an electrical system problem arises, backup braking as well that can be modulated by an operator of the truck regardless of the operating condition of the truck.

This device is used to provide a compact method of presenting baits to target species such as house mice, in a manner that is both safe and effective, and in such a manner that will not allow probing at the toxic substance with flexible objects such as wires, straws and other similar structures that might be bent into an easily fabricted configuration by children. The use of a sophisticated series of internal baffle structures that protect the bait from contact by objects inserted from the outside while allowing a rodent to easily traverse the bait station and consume the bait contained therein, make this device one of the most practical methods of presenting poisoned substances in areas that might become accessible to childred, pets and wildlife.
