摘要: A pedal for a vehicle has an integrally formed clevis, a central portion, and an integrally formed relatively flat foot engaging section. A lightweight, one-piece, extruded aluminum tubing with a thin wall and a round cross section is bent at an acute angle to form a clevis at its upper end and is bent at about a right angle at its lower end to form a foot engaging portion. A hydroforming process forms the walls of the clevis end and the central portion into a rectangular cross section and forces the walls of the lower end together to form a relatively flat, smooth, upper foot engaging surface and an undersurface with longitudinal ribs. Hexagonally configured apertures in opposing walls of the clevis receive a bushing having the same hexagonal configuration. A cut-out section communicates with the aperture in the two opposing walls, and the bushing is secured in the apertures by forcing together the walls adjacent to those with the apertures to close the gap in the cut-out sections. This action causes the walls of the apertures to be received in notches provided in the bushing.

The aluminum reinforcements include front and rear frame extruded members positioned along the sidewalls of the metal hood skin and an arch extruded reinforcement positioned at the wheel arch. In one aspect of the disclosure, the truck hood further includes a pair of fenders formed of a metal skin that may be reinforced by a polymer fender mat.

摘要: A vehicle greenhouse support assembly has an elongated substantially rigid beam, a deformable sheet covering at least a portion of the beam adapted to face the interior of the vehicle with the deformable sheet having a plurality of protrusions. An overlying trim element covers at least a portion of the deformable sheet. The protrusions preferably cover about 30 to 60 percent of the sheet and the sheet is preferably an aluminum sheet having a thickness of about 0.01 inch to 0.02 inch. Impact between the support assembly and a passenger will cause deformation and/or tearing of the deformable sheet and absorption of at least a portion of the energy impact, thereby minimizing the likelihood of a vehicle occupant suffering a serious injury. An associated method is provided.

摘要: A method of making a low inertia wheel for a track laying vehicle. The method includes securing together two center metal discs provided with peripheral offset portions that form a continuous groove when the discs are secured together. Annular wall portions of two circular fiber-reinforced composite rim members are secured to the peripheral offset portions of the metal discs. The composite rim members have laterally extending rim portions supporting solid elastomer tires. Segmented, light weight wear pads are secured on opposed inside surfaces of the continuous groove.

摘要: A light weight road wheel having a relatively low mass moment of rotational inertia for use in a vehicle having an endless track. The wheel includes an inner metal member having a peripheral groove for receiving guide cleats of an endless track, and opposed peripheral rims having inner annular wall portions disposed against surfaces of said inner metal member. The rims are made of a fiber-reinforced composite material. Means are provided for securing the inner member and rim portions together. Elastomer tires secured to the outside surfaces of the rims, and segmented wear pads are located on inwardly facing surfaces of the peripheral groove.

摘要: The modular front end forms the front portion of a motor vehicle. The modular front end includes a bulkhead defining a plurality of integrally formed attachment mounts. A drive train assembly carrying at least an engine of the motor vehicle is attached to the bulkhead at the attachment mounts. A crash energy absorption assembly is attached to the attachment mounts on the bulkhead and generally extends around the drive train assembly. An apron assembly is attached to the bulkhead at the attachment mounts and is generally positioned above the drive train assembly and crash energy absorption assembly.
