摘要： A melt process for the synthesis of poly(metal aromatic esters) resins is provided. The process provides volatile byproducts which can be easily separated from the desired poly(metal aromatic ester) resin product. The poly(metal aromatic ester) resins are particularly useful as polymer additives for the purpose of such things as scavenging traces of water, activating sulphur accelerator crosslinking systems, and producing intumescent and polyester/metal oxide formulations.

摘要： A process for synthesizing polyestercarbonate-siloxane copolymers which have a smaller concentration of low molecular weight species and greater thermal stability has been described. Essentially the process includes adding the comonomer, diacid chloride siloxane, after approximately 1/3 of the phosgene has been added, in a conventional interfacial copolymerization, (as opposed to addition at the beginning of the polymerization).

摘要： A method for assessing the cure status of a fibrous blanket manufactured with mineral fibers and binder is disclosed and comprises a first, qualitative assessment of cure followed by a second quantitative assessment that utilizes one of alternative procedures depending on the outcome of the first, qualitative assessment. For example, a first visual inspection may qualitatively reveal areas or undercure, upon which a second pH test of samples extracted from undercured areas may quantify the degree of undercure. Conversely, if the visual inspection reveals no undercured areas, a different sampling procedure examines different blanket areas for overcure status using a similar pH test.

摘要： An aqueous binder composition is provided that includes a carbohydrate and a crosslinking agent. In exemplary embodiments, the carbohydrate-based binder composition may also include a catalyst, a coupling agent, a process aid, a crosslinking density enhancer, an extender, a moisture resistant agent, a dedusting oil, a colorant, a corrosion inhibitor, a surfactant, a pH adjuster, and combinations thereof. The carbohydrate may be natural in origin and derived from renewable resources. Additionally, the carbohydrate polymer may have a dextrose equivalent (DE) number from 2 to 20. In at least one exemplary embodiment, the carbohydrate is a water-soluble polysaccharide such as dextrin or maltodextrin and the crosslinking agent is citric acid. Advantageously, the carbohydrates have a low viscosity and cure at moderate temperatures. The environmentally friendly, formaldehyde-free binder may be used in the formation of insulation materials and non-woven chopped strand mats. A method of making fibrous insulation products is also provided.
