摘要: The present invention is a multilayered composite comprising porous metal oxide particles that are covalently bonded by way of inorganic ether groups to one or more sites of a first polyhydroxyl-functionalized polymer. This first polymer is in turn covalently bonded by way of inorganic ether groups to one or more sites of a second polyhydroxyl-functionalized polymer. The multilayered composites can be prepared by contacting porous inorganic-oxide particles with a sufficient amount of OH-reactive crosslinking agent to form metal oxide particles imbibed with the crosslinking agent, and then contacting the inorganic-oxide particles with a solution of polyhydroxyl-functionalized polymer under reactive conditions.

摘要: The present invention relates to a composition comprising a) a stable aqueous dispersion of inorganic pigment particles hydrophobically modified with covalently bonded polysiloxane or silyl groups; and b) a polymeric anionic dispersant; wherein the hydrophobically modified inorganic pigment particles have an average particle size in the range of from 200 nm to 10 μm, and the solids content of the hydrophobically modified inorganic pigment particles is from 10 to 80 weight percent, based on the weight of inorganic pigment particles and water. The composition of the present invention provides a way to improve water resistance in coatings formulations.

摘要: The present invention is a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of polymeric binder particles containing a substantial absence of phosphate and phosphonate groups; rutile TiO2 having a purity of at least 98% and a substantial absence of inorganic silica; and a dispersant which is a class of low molecular weight polyphosphates. The composition of the present invention is useful as a coating for paper or paperboard.

摘要: The present invention relates to a coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a binder and first and second core-shell polymer particles having aqueous neutralized acid cores, wherein the first core-shell polymer particles have a diameter in the range of from 1.0 μm to 1.8 μm; the second core-shell polymer particles have a diameter in the range of from 0.25 μm to 1.0 μm; the number ratio of the second to the first core-shell polymer particles is in the range of from 1:1 to 20:1; the diameter of the second core-shell polymer particles is in the range of from 15 to 65% of the diameter of the first core-shell polymer particles; the dry bulk density of the first core-shell polymer particles is in the range of 0.25 to 0.5 g/mL; and the dry bulk density of the second core-shell polymer particles is in the range of 0.30 to 0.90 g/mL. The composition of the present invention is useful as an undercoat layer for a thermosensitive recording material.

The composition of the present invention provides hydrophobicity to pigment particles, thereby imparting water resistance, and allows for high loadings of pigment in water without increased viscosity.

摘要: The present invention relates to a thermosensitive recording material comprising paper, an undercoat layer disposed on the paper, and a thermosensitive recording layer disposed on the undercoat layer, wherein the undercoat layer comprises a binder and first and second hollow sphere polymer particles, wherein the first hollow sphere polymer particles have a diameter in the range of from 1.2 μm to 1.8 μm; the second hollow sphere polymer particles have a diameter in the range of from 0.25 μm to 1.0 μm; the number ratio of the second to the first hollow sphere polymer particles is in the range of from 1:1 to 20:1; the diameter of the second hollow sphere polymer particles is in the range of from 15 to 65% of the diameter of the first hollow sphere polymer particles; the dry bulk density of the first hollow sphere polymer particles is in the range of 0.25 to 0.5 g/mL; and the dry bulk density of the second hollow sphere polymer particles is in the range of 0.30 to 0.90 g/mL.
