摘要: An apparatus for performing measurements on a plurality of light waveguides comprises an arrangement for coupling distinguishably fed optical signals into each of the waveguides and measuring each of the distinguishable signals from the waveguides by using flexural couplers. In one embodiment, the distinguishable signals are obtained by utilizing modulated signals of different modulations, or different frequencies. In another embodiment, the signals are sequentially applied in a chronological order to the waveguides and are separately evaluated.

摘要: A splicer comprises a chassis with an opening in which a splicing unit for splicing of optical waveguides is arranged. The splicer can be controlled via a control and display apparatus. A splicing cassette carrier is arranged rotatably on the chassis. The splicing cassette carrier is designed such that it can be used both for fixing a splicing cassette or else as a carrying handle for the splicer. Furthermore, the splicer has a control unit via which the splicer is switched to an active operating mode or to a standby mode, as a function of the rotation position of the splicing cassette carrier. When the splicing cassette carrier is open, the light intensity of background lighting for the display apparatus and the light intensity of a lighting device can be controlled so they are variable. The reduced power consumption associated with this allows the operational readiness of the splicer to be lengthened.

摘要: In a fiber splicing device, an adjustment apparatus for moving a first fiber-section perpendicular to its end face is designed such that it is composed of at least one piezo-actuator and a drive. After the splicing of the two fiber ends, the piezo-actuator is charged to a preset electrical voltage and the electrical voltage at the piezo-actuator is subsequently measured while the first carriage is moved away perpendicular to the fiber end face and is compared to the preset values. As a result thereof, the tensile stress acting on the fiber can be identified dependent on the movement of the first carriage, so that the drive can be arrested after a preset tensile testing stress has been reached.

摘要: A plug connection for connecting a light waveguide to a plug has a plug member with a connecting light waveguide extending from one side thereof having an end being spliced to a light waveguide of a light waveguide cable and at least one strain relief element being passed over the splice and connected to the plug member. The method of forming the plug connection includes providing a sufficient length of both the connecting light waveguide extending from the plug member and the light waveguide of the cable so that a connection in a normal, known splicing apparatus can be obtained outside of the position of the plug member and then conducting the strain relief element over the splice region and connecting it to the plug member.

摘要: After aligning the respective end portions of a first and second optical fiber, the first and second optical fibers are heated by an electric arc during a first time period to melt the respective end portions. The end face of at least one of the first and second optical fibers is positioned away from a center of the electric arc by a distance greater than a quarter of the width of the electric arc. After bringing the respective end portions into contact the respective end portions of the first and second optical fibers are heated during a second time period to form a splice joint.
