    Abstract: A head mounted display (HMD) device periodically measures a gamma characteristic of each of a plurality of display panels, then adjusts the characteristic of one of the panels to closely match the other. For example, the HMD device can periodically apply a set of currents to selected pixels at each display panel and measure the resulting sets of voltages at the selected pixels. The set of voltages for each display panel indicates the gamma characteristic of the corresponding panel. The HMD device can apply the sets of voltages to a filter to generate a gamma figure of merit (FOM) for each display panel, and adjust a bias (e.g., a backlight bias or a bias of a light emitting diode (LED)) of one or more of the display panels, so that each display panel exhibits similar gamma characteristics.

    Abstract: A method includes receiving an optical signal from an external network at a first optical terminal affixed to an external side of a substantially transparent surface of a building. The first optical terminal includes a first fiber port configured to receive a first optical fiber and an output lens optically coupled to the first fiber port. The first fiber port is configured to route the optical signal from the external network to first optical terminal. The method also includes directing the optical signal through an optical link extending through the substantially transparent surface to a second optical terminal affixed to an interior side of the substantially transparent surface. The second optical terminal includes an input lens and a second fiber port optically coupled to the input lens. The input lens is configured to receive the optical signal from the first optical terminal through the optical link.

    Abstract: A near-eye display device includes a display panel with an array of photon-emitting cells interspersed with photon-detecting cells and a display controller coupled to the display panel, the display controller to control the display panel to display imagery using the array of photon-emitting cells. The device further includes a camera controller coupled to the display panel, the camera controller to control the display panel to capture imagery of an eye of a user using the photon-detecting cells. The device also includes an eye-tracking module coupled to the camera controller, the eye-tracking module to construct a three-dimensional representation of the eye based on the captured imagery.

    Abstract: An HMD device includes a display panel and an x-prism beamsplitter disposed along a first axis between the display panel and an expected position of an eye of a user. The x-prism beamsplitter directs a first light beam in a first direction from the display panel to the eye along the first axis, directs a second light beam in a second direction along a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first axis, and directs a third light beam in the second direction along the second axis, wherein the second light beam is representative of the first light beam and the third light beam is representative of a reflection of the first light beam off of the eye. The HMD device further includes an imaging camera to capture a composite image comprising a combination of both a representation of the second light beam and a representation of the third light beam.
