An X-ray imaging system that utilizes the leakage, or dark current, of a detector panel's photodiodes to provide more accurate data about the temperature and spatial distribution of temperature of the X-ray detector panel. Offset images are taken at known temperatures and recorded for each photodiode at two or more known temperatures. A temperature versus offset image value curve is the created for each photodiode. A second offset image value is determined immediately prior to or immediately after X-ray acquisition to determine the temperature of the detector panel at the time of X-ray acquisition. A coupled closed-loop cooling system utilizes the determined temperature to maintain the detector panel within a preferred temperature range.

Methods and apparatus are provided in a diagnostic X-ray system for reducing signal conversion time for a solid-state detector panel of the X-ray system in order to increase frame rate. A measurement of a set of induced signal offsets caused by time varying charge retention associated with the detector panel is performed during a phantom time segment prior to normal signal readout of the detector panel for a current image frame. A set of adjustment values is generated in response to the set of induced signal offsets. Subsets of signal values of the detector panel are read out to a pre-determined signal dynamic range as part of normal signal readout of the detector panel in response to the set of adjustment values, thus generating a set of normalized detector signals.

A photodiode common contact voltage potential is adjusted by a data line drift amount to approximately maintain the initial bias. An x-ray imaging system (10) includes a detector (12) that has multiple pixels, multiple data lines (50), and a common contact (62) that is at a common contact voltage potential. The readout circuit (30) is electrically coupled to the data lines (50) and has a multiple power states. A controller (36) is electrically coupled to the readout circuit (30), detects a change in operating state of the readout circuit (30), and adjusts voltage potential of the common contact (62) in response to the change in operating state.

An improved design for a solid state X-ray detector that decreases the amount of moisture diffusion that occurs through seals used to attach a cover to a glass substrate panel, thereby protecting the scintillator from moisture damage. In one embodiment, a second hermetic or semi-hermetic seal is introduced between the scintillator and the outside environment to increase the path moisture must travel to reach the scintillator. In another embodiment, a metal frame, preferably a Kovar® frame, is hermetically or semi-hermetically sealed to the cover and glass substrate panel, thereby decreasing the amount of moisture diffusion through the semi-hermetic seal as compared to the prior art.

Certain embodiments provide a method and system for improved x-ray image data acquisition using a digital x-ray detector. The method and system include defining groups of scan lines in a detector, associating data lines in the detector with the groups of scan lines, and reading image data from the groups of scan lines using the associated data lines. The scan lines are connected with a plurality of pixels. A region of interest may be defined in the detector. The pixels obtain image data regarding the region of interest. The image data may be read from at least one scan line in each of the groups of scan lines using the associated data lines. Alternatively, the image data may be read from alternating groups of the scan lines using the associated data lines. Image data may also be binned from adjacent pixels read using a plurality of data lines.

A method and apparatus for correcting the offset induced by Field Effect Transistor (FET) photo-conductive effects in solid state x-ray detectors includes dedicating rows at the beginning and end of an x-ray detector scan. The dedicated rows may be used to measure the “signal” induced by the photo-conductivity of FET switches in solid state x-ray detectors. Since the signal induced by FET photo-conductivity decays over time, the measurements taken at the beginning and end of a detector scan may be used to predict by interpolation the amount of signal contributed by photo-conductive induced offset for each row of the detector scan on a column by column basis.

The detector control circuit includes a multi-function switch coupled to the portable detector, and a detector control module installed in the portable detector, the detector control module receiving an input from the multi-function switch and based on the received input reconfiguring the portable detector from a first operational mode to a different second operational mode. A portable detector including the detector control circuit and a method of operating the portable detector are also provided.
