Abstract:
A process for preparing a polymer in the form of an aqueous dispersion or a water-redispersible powder includes free-radically initiated heterophase polymerization of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers and optionally subsequent drying of the polymer dispersions obtained, wherein the polymerization is performed in a jet loop reactor.
Abstract:
Redispersible polymer powders which are cationically stabilized by spray drying a polymer dispersion with a cationic polymer can be used in higher concentrations in chemical building construction materials without introducing adverse properties.
Abstract:
A method for producing aqueous polymer dispersions by means of radically initiated emulsion polymerisation, in an aqueous medium, of vinyl ester and ethylene, in series-connected polymerisation reactors, wherein in a first discontinuous polymerisation phase at least some of the reactants are introduced into the first polymerisation reactor and the remainder is added in a metered fashion. The reactor is filled up to more than 90% by volume, and at least 90 wt % of the monomers are reacted; in a second continuous polymerisation phase, the reactants are continuously supplied to the first polymerisation reactor and product is continuously withdrawn, and the product is continuously transferred into a second polymerisation reactor, and in the second polymerisation reactor the polymerisation is continued until at least 98 wt % of the monomers used have reacted.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for the production of protective colloid-stabilized polymer products by means of emulsion polymerization in a reactor having an external cooling circuit, which is equipped with a pump and a heat exchanger, characterized in that the reaction mixture present in the reactor is delivered to a cooled static mixer-heat exchanger having stationary fixtures and is subsequently returned to the reactor. The invention further relates to a device for the production of protective colloid-stabilized polymer products by means of emulsion polymerization, comprising a reactor and an external cooling circuit, characterized in that the external cooling circuit is equipped with a pump and a cooled static mixer-heat exchanger having stationary fixtures.
Abstract:
Water-redispersible polymer powder compositions based on homopolymers or copolymers of one or more monomers from the group consisting of vinyl esters of unbranched or branched alkylcarboxylic acids having from 1 to 15 carbon atoms, methacrylic esters and acrylic esters of alcohols having from 1 to 15 carbon atoms, vinylaromatics, olefins, dienes and vinyl halides, one or more protective colloids, if desired antiblocking agents, contain one or more compounds from the group of pozzolanas. The pozzolanic compounds preferably take the place of anti-blocking agents conventionally used.
Abstract:
Copolymers of ethylene and vinyl chloride also containing a protective colloid, optionally in conjunction with a fatty acid compound or precursor thereof or with an organosilicon compound, can be employed to increase the water repellancy of hydraulically settable construction materials.
Abstract:
Dispersion powders stabilized include a protective colloid. The protective colloid includes at least one polyvinyl alcohol having a Höppler viscosity μ1 of not more than 3 mPas and at least one polyvinyl alcohol having a Höppler viscosity μ2 of from 4 mPas to 25 mPas. The weighted Höppler viscosity μw of the protective colloid is not more than 6 mPas.
Abstract:
A water-redispersible polymer powder based on protective colloid stabilized vinyl ester polymers for use in building adhesive compositions is provided. The vinyl ester polymers contain from 0.2 to 1.5% by weight, based on the overall weight of the vinyl ester polymers, or auxiliary monomer units derived from monomers having a higher water solubility than vinyl acetate.
Abstract:
Building materials containing copolymers derived from vinyl ester, (meth)acrylic ester and optionally ethylene comonomers, stabilized with a polyvinylalcohol protective colloid, as their aqueous dispersions or as redispersible polymer powders which are redispersible in water, exhibit improved processing properties and set properties. The copolymers are obtained by emulsion or suspension copolymerization in an at least two step process wherein a) the vinyl ester component is polymerized, optionally with ethylene and further copolymerizable comonomers, to a conversion of from 90 to 100% by weight in a first step, and b) the ester(s) of (meth)acrylic acid are subsequently added and polymerized in a second step. The copolymer dispersion obtained may be dried to form a redispersible copolymer powder.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a fast-drying rendering and coating composition comprising a binder in the form of an aqueous polymer dispersion or of a water-redispersible polymer powder, and also an organic precipitant, if desired in combination with an inorganic precipitant.
