Oligopeptide derivates corresponding to the general formulaMOOC--CHR.sup.1 --CHR.sup.2 --COHN--R.sup.3 (I)in which one of the groups R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group while the other is a C.sub.6 -C.sub.22 alkyl or alkenyl group; R.sup.3 represents the residue of an oligopeptide which optionally contains other MOOC--CHR.sup.1 --CHR.sup.2 --CO-- groups attached to the nitrogen atom of basic amino acid side groups, and M represents hydrogen or an alkali, alkaline-earth, ammonium, mono-, di- or tri-alkanolammonium ion, are produced by partial hydrolysis of an animal or vegetable protein to a hydrolyzate having an average molecular weight of from 200 to 20,000 and reaction of the hydrolyzate with a substituted succinic acid anhydride corresponding to the following general formula ##STR1## in the presence of a base at a pH value above 8. These oligopeptide derivatives are suitable for use as surfactants which are gentle to the skin.

This was achieved by using 3-amino-5-alkyl-1,2,4-triazoles and salts thereof as silver protectors in machine dishwashing detergents. In addition, the dishwashing detergents may contain bleaching agents and builders.

A new process for the production of salts of 1,3-dioxolane-4-carboxylic acid corresponding to the following formula ##STR1## using as a starting material an isomer mixture of a 4-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolane and a 5-hydroxy-1,3-dioxane obtained by reacting glycerin with an aldehyde or ketone having the formula R.sup.1 R.sup.2 CO. The 4-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolane may be selectively oxidized from the isomer mixture in the presence of a platinum metal catalyst at an alkaline pH. The unreacted 5-hydroxy-1,3-dioxane may be extracted from the reaction mixture and the 1,3-dioxolane-4-carboxylic acid salt isolated in pure form.

A colorant composition for coloring keratin-containing fibers is disclosed having (a) at least one isatin derivative corresponding to the formula I: where R1 and R2 independently of one another represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydroxy group, a (C1-4)-alkyl, hydroxy-(C1-4)-alkyl, tertiary amino-(C1-4)-alkyl, (C1-4)-alkoxy group, an amino group optionally substituted by one or two (C1-4)-alkyl or hydroxy-(C1-4)-alkyl groups, a nitro, carboxy, or sulfo group, and Y is a hydroxy group, a (C1-4)-alkoxy group or an amino group which may be substituted by (C1-4)-alkyl, (C1-4)-alkoxy-(C1-4)-alkyl, carboxy-(C1-4)-alkyl, sulfo-(C1-4)-alkyl or hydroxy-(C1-4)-alkyl groups or which may be part of a heterocyclic 5-, 6- or 7-membered ring, or physiologically compatible salts thereof, and (b) at least one compound containing a primary or secondary amino group or hydroxy group selected from the group consisting of primary or secondary aliphatic or aromatic amines, nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds, amino acids, oligopeptides made up of 2 to 9 amino acids, aromatic hydroxy compounds, and CH-active compounds. The coloring composition does not require oxidizing agents and has very little, if any, sensitizing potential.

Sebosuppressive compositions comprising a cosmetically- and pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier and an antiseborrheic agent consisting essentially of a 4-alkoxy- or 4-(4-alkylbenzyloxy)-benzoic acid and a purine compound corresponding to the formula: ##STR1## or the purine 1,3,7,9-tetramethyluric acid; or a physiologically-acceptable salt thereof. The antiseborrheic action of the 4-alkoxy- or 4-(4-alkylbenzyloxy)-benzoic acids is potentiated by the purine compounds. Preferred purine compounds are theophylline, theobromine and caffeine.
