    摘要: A PD (20) is mounted to a position offset (23) as viewed in the direction orthogonal to the center of an optical axis (14) of backward light (13) of an LD (11) in such a manner that a light receiving plane (21) thereof becomes substantially parallel to the center of the optical axis. Alternatively, the PD (20) is mounted thereto so that the light receiving plane of the PD is inclined at angles ranging from about 0° to about 30° to the center of the optical axis of the backward light. Further, the PD whose side face on the LD side is inclined, is used to repeatedly reflect the backward light between the PD and an LD mounting substrate, after which the backward light is launched on the light receiving plane 21. An optical module equipped with a PD for monitoring optical output power of an LD can be applied even to a junction up LD which reduces the number of parts, reduces even the number of connections by solder or the like and the number of electrical connections by wire bonding or the like, and makes no use of a base for the PD. Thus, low-cost PD mounting can be realized.

A beam splitter provided between the laser diode and the wavelength selective member divides light emitted from the laser diode into the first and second divided light and a quarter-wave plate is provided in an optical path between the beam splitter and the wavelength selective member.

The optical module includes a semiconductor laser, a lens for converting a beam emitted from the semiconductor laser into a substantially parallel beam, a beam splitter for splitting the converted beam into a reflected beam and a transmitted beam, and a light-receiving element disposed such that one of the split beams is incident thereupon through an etalon, wherein a center of the reflected beam from the etalon occurring as the beam is incident upon the etalon is arranged to return to a region other than a beam-emitting portion of the semiconductor laser.

    摘要: An optical transmission module includes at least one of a light emitting element and a light receiving element, an optical fiber and an optical wave-guide provided between the light emitting element or the light receiving element and the optical fiber. The optical wave-guide has a z-axis in a direction of light propagation, an x-axis in a vertical direction on a cross-sectional plane perpendicular to the z-axis, and a y-axis in horizontal direction thereon. The optical wave-guide includes a core portion formed so that light is transmitted in the direction of the z axis, around at a center of an origin of the x axis and y axis, and a crud layer which surrounds the core portion and is lower in refractive index than a refractive index of the core portion. The core portion includes a plural number of segments, and at least one of the segments has a recess portion.

    摘要: To provide a reliable optical pickup device, a pickup case and an optical component including a lens are fixed by laser welding to increase the welding strength and reduce the positional displacement due to environmental changes. In a laser welded portion between a pickup case and an optical component including a lens, the optical component is provided with a joint portion having a convex protrusion at a portion to be joined to the pickup case. Laser beam irradiation is performed extending longer than the protrusion to form a thick welded portion at an end of the protrusion, in order to increase welding strength between the optical component and the pickup case.
