Abstract:
A control handle for the tiller of an outboard motor that embodies a twist-grip throttle control, a pivotally supported transmission control and a trim switch, all juxtaposed to each other but oriented in such a way so that actuation of one will not affect accidental actuation of any other control. The trim control is disposed in a projection on the lower side of the outer housing of the control handle and is disposed inwardly from the sides thereof and is protected by a flange.
Abstract:
A throttle and transmission control assembly adapted to be mounted on the tiller of an outboard motor for controlling its transmission and throttle. Both the transmission and throttle controls employ devices that convert rotary into reciprocating motion and which amplify the reciprocating motion so as to permit a compact assembly. The movable components are all mounted on a single piece of the assembly so as to minimize manufacturing variations and to simplify the overall construction. In addition, an interlock is provided that controls the maximum speed at which the engine can be operated when in neutral and for blocking shifting into neutral from forward or reverse when operating at a greater than a predetermined speed but for permitting forced movement into neutral under some engine speeds and, at the same time, reducing the engine speed to the maximum permitted at neutral upon such shifting.
Abstract:
It is an objective of the present invention to make it possible to reproduce the coloration and brightness of the original picture image with good accuracy. In a method step the picture image input region is designated following instructions from the user, and then the area of the picture image input region which is designated is computed following a program stored in a Read-Only-Memory. Furthermore, in another step, the resolution is computed such that the pixels input in the designated area are greater in number than the minimum number of pixels stipulated beforehand.

Abstract:
A number of embodiments of an exhaust system for outboard motors that includes a trap portion in a conduit which conveys the exhaust gases from an expansion chamber formed in the drive shaft housing to an underwater exhaust gas discharge. The trap portion has a horizontal section that is disposed above the water level, and various orientations are depicted. In addition, a catalyst is also provided, and the catalyst is protected from water also by the construction.
Abstract:
Two embodiments of outboard motors embodying tuned exhaust systems having exhaust pipes and expansion chambers into which the exhaust pipes extend. A catalyst is positioned in the exhaust system downstream of the point where the exhaust pipe terminates in the expansion chamber so as to preclude interference with the exhaust tuning. The catalyst bed is removable for ease of servicing without necessitating removal of the outboard motor from the its attachment to the associated watercraft and a trap device is provided for precluding water from entering the engine through its exhaust ports.
Abstract:
A steering mechanism for an outboard motor which comprises a steering bracket having a mounting bore and a steering handle having a mounting shaft at one end that is received for pivotal rotation within the mounting bore. In one embodiment, a wave washer is positioned within a counterbore formed at the upper end of the mounting bore and coaxial therewith so that the wave washer is between the steering bracket and the steering handle. In another embodiment, a pair of rubber members are each positioned within one of a pair of counterbores that are coaxial with the mounting bore, one being formed at the upper end of the mounting bore and the other being formed at the lower end, so that the rubber members are interposed between the steering bracket and the steering handle. The wave washer and rubber members dampen vibration transmission between the steering bracket and handle, and permit pivotal adjustment of the handle up or down while still providing sufficient frictional resistance against inadvertent pivotal movement of the handle. An area of rigid contact is positioned radially outward of the upper counterbore between the steering handle and the steering bracket to provide a highly responsive steering mechanism.
Abstract:
An improved exhaust system and bearing arrangement for a small displacement outboard motor that is rotatable through substantially 360 degrees for reverse operation. The drive shaft housing is formed with a reduced diameter cylindrical portion that is journaled within the swivel bracket by a bearing arrangement comprised of plastic elements and O-ring elements. The engine has an exhaust system with an exhaust pipe that at least in part encircles the drive shaft and which extends into the drive shaft housing below at least one the bearings to provide sufficient length for tuning and to avoid undue heating of the bearing.
Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to provide an atmosphere heat treatment apparatus that is operable without relying on experiences and/or intuitions of an operator, and a method of operating the same. The atmosphere heat treatment apparatus includes an entrance side exhaust path (26) for exhausting an inside atmosphere from an entrance side of a carburizing chamber (10) to which a transforming gas is supplied, an exit side exhaust path (35) for exhausting the inside atmosphere from an exit side of the heat treatment chamber, and an opening degree adjusting lid (28) attached for adjusting an opening degree of the entrance side exhaust path (26), in which a part or whole of the exit side exhaust path (35) is constituted of a pipe (46) having a predetermined inside diameter. It is checked in advance a relationship of a supplying amount A of the transforming gas with a ratio B:C of an exhaust amount B from the exit side exhaust path (35) and an exhaust amount C from the entrance side exhaust path (26) when a pressure in the carburizing chamber (10) is adjusted to a predetermined furnace pressure by adjusting an opening degree of the entrance side exhaust path (26) with the opening degree adjusting lid (28), and when treating a work (W), the supplying amount A of the transforming gas and a furnace pressure are adjusted so as to control the ratio B:C of the exhaust amount B from the exit side exhaust path (35) and the exhaust amount C from the entrance side exhaust path (26) to be within a predetermined range.
