A thermoplastic composition comprising in combination a dialkyl bisphenol polycarbonate homopolymer or copolymer comprising repeat carbonate units having the following structure; wherein R1 and R2 are independently at each occurrence a C1-C4 alkyl, n and p are each an integer having a value of 1 to 4, and T is selected from the group consisting of C5-C10 cycloalkanes attached to the aryl groups at one or two carbons, C1-5 alkyl groups, C6-C13 aryl groups, and C7-C12 aryl alkyl groups; a flame retardant; and an anti-dripping agent is disclosed. The compositions have excellent scratch resistance as well as an improved balance of physical properties such as melt flow, while at the same time maintaining their good flame performance.

Natural amorphous silica filler products featuring high brightness, low oil absorption, fine particle size, and low crystalline silica content are described. Methods for making, using, and measuring the properties of the natural amorphous silica filler products are also described. The natural amorphous silica filler products described herein may be useful in a variety of products including, but not limited to, polymers, sealants, paints, caulks, latex, architectural coatings, industrial coatings, pozzolan, glass catalysts, ceramic glazes, and anti-blocking applications.

Improved fire-retarded properties can be imparted to polycarbonate resin composition by incorporating into the polycarbonate a fire-retardant component containing a perfluoroallkane sulfonate such as potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate and a cyclic siloxane such as octaphenylcyclotetrasiloxane. The fire-retardant component is suitably added at levels to form a polycarbonate composition in which the perfluoroalkane sulfonate is present in an amount of from 0.02 to 0.1 phr relative to the composition as a whole, and the cyclic siloxane is present in an amount of at least 0.02 relative to the composition as a whole.

A fire-resistant copolyestercarbonate composition is provided comprising a salt-based flame retardant; and a copolyestercarbonate comprising a polycarbonate unit and a polyester unit, the polyester unit derived from the reaction of isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, and resorcinol, the copolyestercarbonate containing from about 10 mole percent to 99.9 mole percent of the polyester unit. The composition also has improved scratch resistance and may be transparent.
