    摘要: Apparatus for sensing particles in a fluid medium comprising an ultrasonic resonant cavity for containing a fluid medium. A first transducer on one side of the cavity continuously propagates thereacross ultrasonic compressional waves whose phase and amplitude are perturbed by the presence of particles in the fluid medium. A second transducer positioned on the opposite side of the cavity from the first transducer substantially parallel to and in registry therewith receives the ultrasonic waves and converts them to rf electric waves of the same frequency, the rf electric waves having their phases and amplitudes modulated in response to any perturbations in the ultrasonic waves. The rf waves are amplified and fedback to the first transducer thereby to establish an oscillatory circuit. An attenuator in the oscillatory circuit causes its operation to be marginally oscillatory whereby small changes in the amplitude of the rf waves caused by any perturbations in the ultrasonic waves produce relatively large changes in the amplitude thereof. A detector responsive to perturbations in the rf wave demodulates the amplified rf wave to produce signals indicative of the presence of particles in the fluid medium. Thus, enhanced sensitivity to small changes in the ultrasonic properties of the fluid medium caused by the presence of particles therein is achieved.

    摘要: When a zeolite additive composition of a medium-pore zeolite with a Constraint Index from about 1 to about 12 and a silica to alumina mole ratio greater than about 12 is added to a conventional cracking catalyst dispersed in an inorganic matrix, the octane will be improved, but there will be a yield loss in the amount of gasoline produced. An improvement in that catalyst system is obtained by partially exchanging the medium-pore zeolite additive with cations from one or more elements of Group IA, Group IIA or Group IIIA of the Periodic Table. The octane number of the gasoline-range product of an FCC process is still improved while the amount of the gasoline yield loss typically observed for such octane-enhancing additives is reduced.

    摘要: An underwater communications system comprising first and second communications modules which transmit and receive data utilizing infrared radiation. Each module has a transmitter/receiver which converts each received data byte to RS-232 formatted data for transmission to a computer. Each communication module also includes a timer for providing a forty kilohertz pulsed signal to modulation circuitry which passes the pulsed signal through the modulation circuitry when a logic zero is supplied to the modulation circuitry and which inhibits the pulsed signal when a logic one is supplied to the circuitry. That portion of the pulsed signal which passes through the modulation circuitry is provided to a light emitting diode which transmits a pulsed burst of infrared radiation to an infrared light detecting unit within the second communications module. The infrared light detecting unit then provides a logic zero at its output when its receives a pulsed burst of infrared radiation for time period of approximately six hundred microseconds and a logic one when the unit fails to detect a pulsed burst of infrared radiation for a time period of six hundred microseconds.
