摘要: A thermoplastic film composition that includes a polymer blend of multiple inherently incompatible polymer components is described. The composition includes a polymer blend having about 5 wt. % to about 45 wt. % of a plasticized natural polymer, about 5 wt. % to about 40 wt % of a polyolefin, a biodegradable polymer, and a compatibilizer with both a polar and a non-polar moiety on the same polymer molecule. The total plasticized natural and biodegradable polymers constitute a majority or predominant phase (≧51 wt. %), while petroleum-based olefinic polymers form the minority phase. The composition can be made into a film containing at least one renewable, natural polymer component. Also described are the articles of manufacture that may use such films.

摘要: A biodegradable, polyolefin-based material composition having incorporated therein thermoplastic starch particles is described. The material includes from about 5% to about 45% of a thermoplastic starch (TPS), from about 55% to about 95% of a polyolefin or mixtures of polyolefins, and from about 0.5% to about 8% of a compatibilizer, which has a non-polar backbone and a polar functional monomer or a block copolymer of both the non-polar block and a polar block. A method of forming a film and packaging assemblies made with the polymeric material are also described.

摘要: A rolled absorbent personal care article includes a longitudinal direction, a transverse direction and a depth direction. The absorbent article component, absorbent article extension component, wrapper sheet component each have a longitudinal, transverse, and depth direction. Each of the absorbent article component and absorbent article extension component includes at least a topsheet layer and a backsheet layer, wherein the backsheet layer includes a garment-facing surface on which is situated a garment adhesive. The absorbent article component and the absorbent article extension component each include a peripheral edge, with the components being attached to the wrapper sheet component with the garment adhesive, such that the peripheral edges are adjacent one another. The absorbent article component and the absorbent article extension component are in a rolled configuration within the wrapper sheet component and secured in the rolled configuration.

摘要: An absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) capable of inhibiting leakage of a fluid insult generally extends in a plane defined by a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction. The absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) contains fluid-shrinkable members (60. 61), a topsheet (11;611;711;811), and a base pad (12;812) that includes a baffle (28;828) and an absorbent core (30) positioned between the topsheet (11;611;711;811) and the baffle (28;828). The topsheet (11;611;711;811) extends in the longitudinal direction to define a distal end (153) and an opposing proximal end (152). At least a portion of the proximal end (152) remains generally unbonded to the baffle (28;828). The fluid-shrinkable members (60,61) extend in the longitudinal direction of the absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) so that at least a portion of the fluid-shrinkable members (60,61) are located adjacent to the proximal end (152) of the topsheet (11;611;711;811). Thus, when the fluid-shrinkable members (60,61) contract upon contacting a fluid insult, the proximal end (152) of the topsheet (11;611;711;811) can raise outwardly from the plane of the absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020). The raised area creates a barrier to the leakage of fluids from the center of the absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) towards its end. Contraction of the fluid-shrinkable members can also cause an outer region of the topsheet (11;611;711;811) to raise outwardly from the plane of the absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) to create a barrier to the leakage of fluid from the center of the absorbent article (20;620;720;820;920;1020) towards the side edge. Because such barriers are generally created only after contact with a fluid insult, their effectiveness is not diminished through use of the article prior to the insult.
