    摘要: A drive system designed to use a vehicle's existing hydraulic system to operate a controllable limited slip differential assembly. The limited slip differential assembly may be associated with the front axle, the rear axle, or the driveline between the front and rear axles. The differential assembly may also be used in combination that includes front, rear, or intermediate differential assemblies. The drive system further includes a friction clutch assembly for selectively engaging and disengaging an input member with an output member of the differential assembly, a fluid clutch actuator for selectively frictionally and variably loading the clutch assembly, and a fluid pump that is a common source of pressurized fluid for the fluid clutch actuator and the existing hydraulic system of the motor vehicle other than the fluid clutch actuator of the drive system. The fluid clutch actuator is actuated by fluid pressure generated by the fluid pump.

    摘要: An actuator assembly for generating a fluid pressure and applying the fluid pressure to a first device. The actuator assembly comprises a first fluid chamber and a first piston disposed adjacent to the first fluid chamber, a second fluid chamber and a second piston slidably received in the second fluid chamber, a fluid passage connecting the first fluid chamber with the second fluid chamber, and an actuator motor for selectively reciprocating the first piston so that axial movement of the first piston generates a fluid pressure within the first fluid chamber. The first piston is disposed within the actuator motor. As the first chamber is fluidly communicating with the second fluid chamber, the linear motion of the first piston causes corresponding linear motion of the second piston for applying the fluid pressure to the first device.

The transfer case comprises a housing, an input shaft and an output shaft both rotatably supported within the housing, and the torque-coupling device. The torque-coupling device comprises a hollow casing, a selectively engageable friction clutch assembly for operatively coupling the input shaft to the output shaft, and a hydraulic clutch actuator. The hydraulic actuator includes a hydraulic pump located within the casing and adapted to generate a hydraulic pressure to frictionally load the friction clutch assembly, and a variable pressure relief valve assembly fluidly communicating with the hydraulic pump to selectively control the hydraulic pressure generated by the pump.

    摘要: A front-wheel-drive transaxle unit for a motor vehicle comprises a differential assembly having a differential mechanism disposed in a differential case and two opposite output shafts outwardly extending from the differential case and a torque-coupling device for selectively restricting differential rotation of the differential mechanism. The torque-coupling device includes a friction clutch assembly for selectively frictionally engaging and disengaging the differential case and one of the output shafts, and a selectively controllable clutch actuator assembly for selectively frictionally loading the friction clutch assembly. The clutch assembly includes at least one first member non-rotatably coupled to the differential case and at least one second member non-rotatably coupled to one of said output shafts. The torque-coupling device provides the differential assembly of the front-wheel-drive transaxle unit with both limited-slip and open differential capabilities.

    摘要: An electronically controlled front wheel drive limited slip differential assembly that is designed to allow an operator to manually or automatically control the limited slip function. The differential control and actuation assembly is located external to the front transaxle and differential case. The assembly includes an electric solenoid that modulates hydraulic pressure produced by a gerotor pump. When the limited slip differential control is in the ON position, hydraulic pressure produced by the gerotor pump engages a friction clutch pack, which couples the differential case to the front axle output shaft. When the limited slip function is in the OFF position, the electrical solenoid does not allow the gerotor pump to generate sufficient hydraulic pressure to actuate the clutch pack. When the differential control is in an intermediate position, the specific control setting, and the rotational speed of the front axle output shaft relative to the rotational speed of the differential case determine differential engagement. In addition to the ability to manually control the limited slip function, a computer processor/logic unit can also electronically control the function.
